Stones is on 106 according to Soccerweb. Holgate on 18. Mawson on 27. All 3 should add a lot of over the next few years. I wouldn't like to guess who is going to have the most by the end of their careers.
When I first started supporting the Reds in 1987 I was behind the goal before kick off at the Ponte end and got talking to a fan who said he was from Darton. It must have been early in the season because the pitch was immaculate. He told me that when we first moved to Oakwell the Reverend Tiverton Preedy had a contact at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club i.e. St Andrews in Scotland which had been founded around 30 years before us. This lad told me that the R&A were re-laying some of their greens and fairways and that they donated what had been taken up to Barnsley FC on the provision that if ever we folded it would have to be given back. We know that the pitch was excavated to install the undersoil heating system at some point and don't know whether new turf was laid as a result, but I wondered if anyone else had heard what I was told.? I have never been able to see any reference to it in the " history " of the Club and have always wondered if the guy was pulling my leg or whether the story had some credibility.!
