People don't have the "freedom" to spray paint on war memorials though

    It's vandalism which is illegal!

    Concientious Objectors

Many people who refused to fight, were involved in bomb disposal and other hazardous occupations.

Just because they didn't want to kill, doesn't make them less deserving.

And at that time, I would think it took some courage to stand up and say they were concientious objectors.

    RE: Concientious Objectors

Does that mean they should be honoured with a medal whilst men who were already in the mines and not allowed to leave aren't?

The Bevan boys were very much disliked by the regular miners.

I think they should be recognised for their contribution to the war effort.

Everyone realises that the soldiers, sailors, and airmen were the cutting edge in the war, but others also contributed.

I suspect [though I could be wrong], that this is an attempt to recognise what the Bevan boys, and others like them did to help in the war.

I have relations who both fought, and were in reserved occupations. They all did their bit.

    Just a point but..

I was in Tesco at 11am this morning, an announcement was made that staff were observing the 2 minutes silence and that customers could join them, everything stopped except for two women, both 60+ years who just carried on talking away throughout the 2 minutes. It's not that they didn't hear the announcement, they stopped shopping (like everyone else did) just carried on nattering - so let's not just blame the "younger generation", some of the older ones need a lesson in respect.

    Maybe

He just can't grasp the concept of 2 minutes silence & this was his attempt at a 2 minute applaud!

I used to work at Morrisons...

...and the number of customers who would carry on regardless and even ask you to help them while the rest of the shop stood in silence was unbelievable. They'd look at me blankly as I stared back at them.

That sort of behaviour cannot be condoned

    Who's condoning it........not me (dunno)
In earlier posts I've said the Golf Driver was an idiot and showed no repect
And I agree, it would be nice if he spent a few weeks in prison

But thats not the point I was trying to make - its this...........freedom and democracy comes at a price although it was a price worth fighting for
Now do you get it ???

Plus I was trying to look after Scarthy and make him feel better, because I often sit at home and worry about him (gent) (gent) (gent)
