RE: Whoa hold on a minute !!! In my opinion we are sending too many people to university in the first place. Blair wants 50% which I feel in unsustainable. The quality of degrees is falling as well. My son is studying English with a view to become an English teacher. If he does it great, if he doesn't use the degree to get a job that relates to the degree then I'm sorry but to me it's time wasted. One benefit of this is that it takes people of the unemployment figures. Cynic me ???? hmmm...
Just a minor point when Brown became chancellor he raided the pension funds of contributors by abolishing the tax credit on dividends. This has raised billions for the treasury and has reduced the value of pension funds. I wonder if these billions have helped finance education. I also think this has caused disillusionment with pensions and has fuelled the market for rental properties.
I've no axe to grind with you I just think you calling a whole generation greedy and 'spongers' is unfair. If you want to blame the politicians, in my opinion fine. Don't forget a significant number of my contempories went down a 'black hole' at sixteen and then became pawns in a political battle which when ended left them without the means to earn a living for themselves and their families.

Good luck mate !!! I hope you get the teaching position you want. Also although I've been having a bit of a rant, I think the unfair rent level charged on you is scandalous.
