Blaming the opposition for the ills the party in power has inflicted on the country is a bit like blaming a victim of abuse/assault for not fighting back hard enough. It doesn't suddenly make it acceptable just because the other party isn't powerful enough.

I have no idea who was in opposition to the Nazi party but you never hear about them when studying history at school (no idea if covered in GCSE or A level as I didn't take it) nor do you hear people blaming them as opposed to Hitler and co. for everything the Nazis did.

I get the impression that everyone thinks they are right & try to impose their views on others & fuelled with alcohol debates can get heated , many years ago I was extremely politically active but now I am completely the opposite & keep out of political debates.

i've lost count of the people that have said "just imagine how bad it would be if Corbyn was in charge" my reply is always "Corbyn isn't and never has been in charge so your argument is completely moot" a typical tory cop out comment because they know that Boris and his cronies have absolutely no defence..

I have no idea where the blame lies for modern political discourse:
A very powerful media in bed with the Tory party
The Internet, the democratisation of knowledge
Social media and manipulation by bad actors
The left itself, which has always had a history of infighting more aggressively than in attacking the right.

But the outcome is everywhere to see. This forum is left leaning since many on the right got themselves a ban for going full on BNP. However if I started a thread about the government’s handling of any particular situation, there’d be an attack on Labour half way down the first page, and it’d be mostly about what’s wrong with Labour by the end.

In the last 5 years I’ve written more posts about Labour than the Tories, and I’m aligned to no particular wing of the party, and I actually try to not get involved in the infighting. But it’s so insidious, it feels like it’s impossible to fix.

It’s when they start spouting the “Margaret Thatcher was the best thing that happened to this country because she got rid of red Robbo” that I have trouble keeping quiet with. Trouble is that when you’re in that company you always finish up being in the wrong, because they close ranks. I live in the south as well.

There was a tv programme where they went into a True Blue leafy Tory constituency and read out a list of policy ideas to them. With barely any opposition they all said they thought they were good ideas and would support them.

Then the interviewer told them they were Jeremy Corbyn's.

    Well, you can imagine......

Well for a start stop fighting amongst themselves & perhaps concentrate on issues that will get them back in power (rather than gender neutrality etc.). They need to understand that however much we (me) would like a more socialist government its not going to happen they have to appeal to the centre ground
