RE: Not sure the London Tykes will be too chuffed to be described as Cockneys nt

I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to cockneys, they all sound pretty much the same from northampton downwards. Then again to them lot we are all northerners and us in particular all posess a flat cap and a whippet apparantly so they are just as bad

see hale and pace's take on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VLYpKGVBUg

The old maxim is that if you were born within earshot of the church bells at Bow, East London, you're a Cockney. It isn't just anywhere in London, it's a distinct area within the East End...

That's what I meant, Iknew someone would come up with that... !!! anyway, no one can afford to be born a cockney any more, too expensive and too much traffic drowning out the sound of the bells

A lot of it now is quite gentrified, I think, the Docklands and Hackney and places like that - if it keeps on like it is doing Cockney may well become a thing of the past...

    Here tha guz:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockney

I've a mate who lives down there, his brother used to live about two minutes walk from Upton Park - West Ham and Leyton Orient are your two "proper" Cockney teams, I think...

    RE: rhyming slang

wikipedia is great, but i think the reason i have a problem with cockneys is that rhyming slang - whats the point of inventing a phrase which is much longer than the word it is supposed to represent?

They're still all cockneys to me, just like I am a "southerner" to a Geordie.

Catching flies is better than getting beaten up by blokes who're bigger than me, though!

so i take it was u wit ICU on the shirt. well obviously!! was stood directly behind you

dont read anything into the result. its just a knock about in the park

But ricketts did play well and i really think we should get him signed before someone else does

Werling looked good when he came on and a great ball in for the goal

Howard made a difference when he came on

and i think coulson had a decent game. think if he gets a few runs out, even just as sub, he will start and stake a claim

    RE: rhyming slang

I think the rhyming slang is quite cool - especially the origins of some of the words. Saying that, that sort of thing fascinates me anyway.

Where I used to work I had dealings with a few Cockneys - they were all OK lads, like but the ones who sort of resembled the Del-Boy wideboy types could get a bit annoying - mainly 'cos I think they played up to the image, if you know what I mean.

The rest were dead reyt - traditionally the East End was one of the exceptions that proved the North / South divide rule so they were just regular, working blokes.

I agree that Coulson looked like he has a part to play. Doesn't look like a boy playing in an adults game anymore...
