If they take the action now the 10 points would be deducted immediately.

If they take the action after the 26 March the ten point deduction would be carried over to next season if they finish in the bottom three. If they were to finish outside the bottom three, however, the ten point deduction would come into effect this season, effectively relegating them.

I'm not sure what would happen to the additional points deduction though, if they fail to secure the CVA. Almost definitely now, any team that drops into administration will fail to secure the CVA because of the new stand taken by the Inland Revenue, and rightly so. Why should they have to reduce their debt by 95% when the players get paid in full, particularly when it is most often the wages of the players, along with the lack of success of the players (in winning any prize money, attracting the crowds, etc) that has majorly contributed to the aforementioned debt.

Whilst I sadly agree that if we benefit from staying up thanks to teams going into administration I would be relieved, it's a sad state of affairs when the St John Ambulance, catering contractors, etc don't get paid cos the clubs have spent too much on players wages and agents fees, which is generally the root of the problem.

It's about time that somebody was appointed by the football leagues to ensure that this doesn't happen again. They should be working with the clubs and overseeing their budgeting to prevent clubs gambling on their future, like Ridsdale's teams always do, for example. If that means that the football league have to come down heavy on the PFA and change some of the stupid rules then so be it. Once players start getting sacked for financial reasons and start finding that they can't find other clubs willing to take them on their overinflated salaries, the wages demands and agent fees will start getting more realistic. Which other profession has rules as strong as professional footballers when it comes to getting their salaries paid. Football managers and senior bankers and that's about it.

It'd mean a big change in thinking for a lot of fans though, who think that the big money signings that they keep demanding will play for nothing. But if clubs are willing to offload the overpaid players and give the young players a game we'd find that the clubs will still go on. And once the players realise that "they'll just go abroad" isn't an answer when nobody wants them, they'll get a bit more realistic with salaries. All this "we have to earn as much as we can because our career is over by 35" nonsense is really irritating. It's time they got into the real world. I'd suggest that 90% of the people that post on here have managed to work in more than one industry.

But if the football league is going to start doing that they are going to have to look at how the money is shared out amongst the 92 clubs, because with all the will in the world, teams like Darlington with a massive stadium and small crowds cannot sustain any level of football on their own generated income alone. Therein lies the problem, because the top dozen clubs couldn't give a hoot about the rest of the league. It's a big problem and I think this is the type of thing that has disillusioned Patrick Cryne and prevents him from wanting to get more involved on the football side.

That's a long winded way of saying that there is a chance that Barnsley may be saved this season off the field, but hopefully we won't need to be and if we are it is a sorry state of affairs that decent clubs like Charlton and Norwich can't pay for their first aid provision when players like Ashley Cole are getting paid so much.

I wont be surprised if Charlton go into Admin

I hear that their finances are very shakey. They are as good as down so if they think they cant make it through the summer then it makes sense to go now

It is a risky choice though - The administrator might not be as good as the one we had and really screw up their chances of bouncing back for some time
