RE: 4-4-2

You are spot on. In the Charlton game, he played Colace, Da Silva, and Teymourian and they did get in each other's way. Da Silva looked totally lost playing in the "wider" position and as a team we looked short of ideas.
Stating the obvious, we need to score goals if we are going to stay up and playing two wide men will give us a better chance of doing that in my opinion.

RE: Who knows what goes on in his head? ............

I've got this feeling that because he's a ''young, highly qualified coach''(????) he thinks he's got to prove how clever he is with his systems, Where as the old un-badged coaches (ie. Fergie, Redknap, Venger ) don't and keep it simple and play players in their best positions within the system they play, simples. With regards to the present squad make up, with Danny Wilson in charge we would be in the top half of the table possibly pushing for a top six place playing simple attacking pass and move football with wingers giving us width. Ah well, we can all dream but unfortunately at the moment it's a nightmare.

Hes obsessed with his central midfield being robust. Thats why he doesnt trust the likes of Jacob Butterfield to slot in when were short. Thats why he stuck Hassell in there on Saturday and we had to suffer the useless Van Homo at full back - did anyone notice how many times Boggy had to cover for him??

Ive sat on the fence for a long time with this guy but looking at the fixtures and taking into consideration our awful away form and our general run of results since christmas Im getting worried.

    Option 3

As a manager he should have a 'prefered' formation. Such as Fergy and his 442. and should then buy players that fit his prefered way of playing. i.e. can't see Fergy buying JS Park because he thought he was worthy of playing in the best team in the world, he bought him because he was good at a particular job.

I assume SD brought in Hamil because he rated him has a winger, but then doesn't play wingers! There will always be a problem when managers buy players because they are good (i.e. Chelsea) rather then because they are good and fit into the way the team operates (i.e. Manu).

I wouldn't change my formation to fit players, it can't work in the long term. Particuarly when players get injured. It means the formation is changed on a regular basis.

It seems obvious to say my formation is 442, and I will choose players to com to my club that fit that position, not play JCR in the 'hole' because I've seen that work on match of the day!

Hammill & JCR on both wings will be really good at home. Colace can sit with Anderson/Bobby, I really don't see the problem vs the poorer sides!

If you had seen Butterfield playing for the Reserves last night, you would not pick him in any team let alone the first team. He showed no effort, poor attitude and very little committment. I'm not surprised he won't pick him.

you lot must realise that these posts, particularly the current one, will wind Davey up, because I'm sure he gets to know whats being said. He will go out to ensure your common sense attitude will not
be followed and,at the risk of our club he will continue to persue his distorted methods.

    RE: 4-4-2

We played Colace, Da Silva, and Teymourian together for 3 games. We won 2 and drew 1. An excellent return I would say. But everyone complains about it because it isn't the mythical 4-4-2. And everyone ignores the fact that we've been hammered loads of times when playing 4-4-2 since being in this division.

He works very hard for the team. You can't fault his attitude but technically he is not good enough for the Championship. The quality of his passing is poor, both long and short. I don't expect him to get a new contract here.

Jay you are so right. How many times have barnsley played a 4-4-2 at Sheff Wednesday and lost.

    RE: Ever?

I bet we played 4-4-2 for the majority of games we've lost at Hillsborough during the barren 27 years. Davey does something different, plays with three holding midfielders and we win the games, yet everyone slags off the system and wants a return to 4-4 ******* 2. Who'd be a manager.

HAHA JAY, Man u even change there formation to a 4-5-1 last night and they where at home. Yes and they put a striker on the wing. Sir Alex ferguson one of the best managers the English league as ever seen. If man u had some supporters barnsley have got they would be booing him.

If Davey pays any attention to anything on an internet bulletin board

Then he shouldn't be in the job.

We're fans with varying opinions. He's the one that stands by his team selections and keeps a job because of results. We're just debating.

The same goes for anyone 'higher up' at BFC that may be adversely affected by the opinions of fans on here - grow up ffs.

    He has a point.

How many times this season have we played with Devaney & JCR with Anderson & Colace and got battered?

Some of our best results have come when one of our strikers has dropped to the right wing when we've lost the ball & gone 4-5-1. Remember Burnley (twice), Wednesday, QPR?

    Give him a break FFS.

    RE: 4-4-2

Earlier on in the season we won 3 out of 4 and drew the other game playing 4-4-2.

For 10 minutes against Birmingham we battered them after Hamill came on. You can take owt in isolation to try and prove something.

    Isolation?

They've only played 3 games together, we were undefeated in those and won 2 getting our first win at Hillsborough for 27 years, yet people still slag off the system. Can't weigh it up missen.
