Are we debating the system or those 3 players ?

Cos those 3 are quality players, but none of them imho can play wide.

Didn't go to Hillsbro' but apparently after passing them to death the 1st half we sat back - which we do whateever the system. Charlton was abysmal and QPR - owed much imho to the efforts of Hamill.

Hamill had a good game but to single him out when the midfield that day were outstanding (including Anderson playing down the right) is a bit unfair.

I didn't say he won us the game single handed - but his pace and workrate down the flanks took a lot of responsibility away from the other 3.

He's a stubborn bleeder for sure.
His tactics are down to fear. If we'd gone for the jugular more this season (particularly away) we would not be sitting 4th bottom now. If he persists with the negative tactics, I can see plenty of draws at home, narrow defeats away and ultimately.....relegation.

We were utterly ineffective with 2 wingers vs Donny & Wednesday eh Simon?

Apart from the bits when we tore their defences to shreds. (doh)

    I have to say

that for 45 minutes of both those games the oppositions midfield was woefull, whilst ours excelled.

Piggies actually made some changes to midfield and almost snatched a draw in the end, for Donny JCR scored a wonder goal and ADS totally ran them ragged in the 2nd half.

He generally sets his team up to avoid defeat...

and sees the way of doing this as having three in the centre of midfield, with JCR usually floating about at full back or left wing and then generally being ineffectual.

The problem with the above is it tends to make us one dimensional and play in front of teams. Most goals come from crosses into the box.

With two wingers with the pace and work rate of JCR and Hamill I'd say that at home at least we should believe in what we are capable of and attack the opposition, creating chances from crosses in to the box and actually having forrads in the box to get on the end of them.

SD woudl then argue we would be unhappy as we might lose a few matches more this way but I'd guess that we would create more and be a little more pleasing on the eye. We are actually a decent team when we play football on the ground. I think we did play well against QPR but then again they did come to make a game of it and not just sit back and let us attack them.

That is bang on......... he believes his own press ............

..... that he is an 'up and coming' young manager and he's trying to be too clever with both his tactics/systems and with the way he treats the players.

He has (somehow) managed to assemble a good set of players, there is no doubt that he has improved the squad, but he has no idea whatsoever about who to play and where and when, hence his baffling starting formations/selections and his even more baffling substitutions at times.

I honestly think the players put in a good performance and get the odd good result (i.e. QPR at home) in spite of Davey rather than because of him, just because on occasions, despite Davey's tactics and tinkerings, they just gel and hit it off.

He will take us down, if not this season then next, because the problem is, he is not as good as HE thinks he is

"it leaves us too open in midfield"

this from the man who played Leon in centre midfield on more than one occasion.

    Get over the JCR infatuation

He runs around with not much end product because he's far too unpredictable and the rest of the team can't plan anything because they have to firstly wait five minutes for him to defeat the same defender five times, run round the back of the midfield, back up the other wing, into the middle to see that first defender again, then look up and wonder why nobody's in a decent position.

I just don't rate him any more. Hammill's absolute class in comparison. Gets ball, runs like hell up the wing, and shoes in a cracking cross. Job done.

    it's all................

part of Simon Davey's cunning plan to make sure he's here next season-no scout watching him over the last few games would give us two bob for him

    He's a winger mate, and a good 'un ............

......... at that, and if he stays on the wing he can do some damage in this league, but Davey has decided he's now a superstar, worthy of a free role in the team and JCR now thinks he's a world beater, hence his performances have gone down the pan. Nice one SD

I thought we were excellent against QPR

Best performance for ages. The whole of the midfield played superbly in my opinion. The system looked bang on to me. I'm not saying we shouldn't play 4-4-2 but it's not the be all and end all, and that performance shows that Davey can get a good performance from an alternative system.

    I always thoughtDavey

    1) chooses his senior, more experiencedplayers, (which may mean putting 3 strikers on the pitch as on Tuesday)then

    2) tries to create a formation around them, whichmay be completely alien to the players. This usually leads to some confusion, players running into each other, etc.

If I were picking a team I would always look at the balance of the side first, and playing a player in the position they feel comfortable.

Isn't that comment a bit insulting towards PC?

Aren't you saying he's having he wool pulled over his eyes?

I'm sure he is aware of the league table, and that some supports are becoming "restless."

I think he is underestimating the players he has now. He probably was right when we had Colace and Anderson both in and out of the team. Now, with Teymourian and Bobby, we have got enough quality in there to choose 2 from to play with wingers. Hammill and JCR could cause chaos for defenders, and will both put in a shift, get Boggy and Mifsud playing as proper strikers. I honestly think we are as good as anybody. Just got to believe in them and give them a chance to do it. This set of players haven't been used in a 442. I think we have got to have a go at teams at home, and if it works then why not just stick with it? Got to give it a chance though, perfect opportunity on Saturday.
