didn't realise he said NEVER. hope it was just misphrased. cos if he thinks that then he should be sacked today.
This is getting very difficult I'm not saying tomorrow. Ritchie said never. He said we can never hope to be competing in the top end of the championship again. Do you agree with that? Do you think it was a positive thing to say?
Positives and Negatives with Ritchie Positive.........good man manager Negative.........not much ambition......yes man......hasn't got Barnsley at heart.........laughs when everybody else in the ground is not laughing I would prefer Holden as the manager and Ritchie as No. 2
Thanks Jay. I'm glad someone else heard what I heard People say I will moan at owt and perhaps I will You are one of the most reasonable and respected posters. You heard what I heard and feel the same as me.
i've taken the word "never" as a throw away phrase he didn't really mean but maybe i'm misguided on this. i'm also not making kneejerk reactions to his statement as i don't see how relevant his statement is. will he try not to get us up there? no, so i just don't see what the fuss is. i like to think that there are maybe alterior motives for him saying it, such as maybe he's trying to spur the barnsley fans amongst the squad such as Kay and Austin (who were sent off last week remember) into wanting him to eat his words and try harder and not get sent off. Maybe something happened during training with regards to one of the players and he thought he'd try and get a reaction out of him by saying what he did just don't wanna jump on the bandwagon and i think there's always something else with statements like these
awwww (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) (2gay) only messing. personally i think its no big deal
Maybe it's not a big deal I just thought our manager should be more ambitous, which is what I said in the original post. I believe in our football club and I want our manager to believe in it too and believe he can take us up in to the championship and compete at that level. If our manager doesn't believe he can do it, what hope have we got?
RE: I'm sorry, you've totally lost me. Tha sez: <br style="font-style: italic;" /><span style="font-style: italic;">"for our manager to believe that we'll never again be challenging forpromotion to the premiership shows a total lack of ambition in myopinion." </span>Ain't gonna happen any road.<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>
never going to happen? is that what they said when barnsley were in the old 4th division? if they had taken that attitude then then the likes of you and me would never have seen us taking on chelsea and liverpool in the premier league. what we need is a little bit of ambition and a hell of a lot of good fortune
So you also believe That we will never again be in the top half of the championship? That's some defeatest attitude you've got considering the facilities at the club, our fan base and our history. And I'm the one that's supposed to be moaning.
right, because thats how it works isnt it. its like the world cup, you have to wait till everyone else has hosted it before its your chance again. we have just as much chance as anybody else does of getting promotion this season via the play offs. imagine that, we would be in the championship next season. a season of surival in the championship and with the right buys and management we would have exactly the same chance as the other 22 championship side of getting promotion. you only nee dto finish in the top 6 to be in with a shot and i think we have as much chance as anybody of aiming for that top 6 spot
No it wasn't. We finished 6th in 1995 and still had a chance of the play-offs on the last day of the season when we travelled to Southend. That is competing for promotion. In 1990 we finished on the same points as the last play-off team and were actually in the play-offs until Brighton scored an injury time winner in their last match. That is competing for promotion. In 1981, had we beaten Norwich instead of losing 2-0, we would have been promoted instead of them. That is competing for promotion. And, unless you've forgotten, we made the play-off final in 2000. That is competing for promotion.
RE: No it wasn't. And since 2000? Nowt. These things tek time. Would the performance against Donny t' other week stand up in t' Championship? Nope. I ain't got a problem with ambition, but saying Premiership (in two seasons according to some?) is a little unrealistic at the moment. Sounding like Wendies FFS.... Thats MY opinion, an I'm 'avin it! End.
you have missed the point completly and utterly i am not saying premiership in two years, im pretty sure that jay isnt either. what we are saying is that is HAS to remain our goal. take a look at our cloubs infrastructure, it is as good as anyones and with time, luck and a lot of ambition there is nothing to stop us from slowly rebuilding into the successful side we have been before.
