    Team positions

Managers of greater experience than Andy ,and over the years have more or less said the same thing, THAT teams do have a natural position in the leagues due to various factors, one of the most important being possible maximum fan base, and this would is one of the main reasons why I agree with Andy's comments. Without a sugar daddy how the *+&^ can we AFFORD to be in the premiership...... (now stands back under air raid shelter)

I'll say it for the last time 'cos it's getting really boring

It's nothing to do with being in the chuffing premiership. I've never said that we will be a competitive team in the premiership. Andy Ritchie said we would never again be at the top end of the championship competing for a place in the premiership.

How hard is it to understand that?

Well OK,I heard it just on the way into the ground and the question at the outset related to wether Oldham would ever get back to the top flight, and Andy said no and then went on to elaborate that such teams as us them and others couldnt hope to get back without big financial backing. He mentioned managing Oldham for 3 years with only £60,000 to spend etc. I did not read into the interview the same negative vibes that most on here seem to put . BUT thats just my view...........

I must be missing something then, dont we have a very wealthy charitable benefactor, dont most weeks attendances beat all but one or two in this division even when we play poorly, didnt we spend 20 yrs in the higher division on little investment and low attendances, didnt we get into the premiership with a cut price team. What Richie should be saying is why are'nt Barnsley in the top half of the Championship? not ,they can 'NEVER' get there again

    And all that's fair enough

We all have our own interpretation of interviews and articles in the press. I thought Andy was being too defeatist, you didn't, which is fine. I think another reason I was a bit put out by it was that Andy is usually so upbeat in what he says. More often than not he gives a very good interview.

However, the thing that is beginning to piss me off is that I'm being labelled a moaner for thinking that our club can do better in the future than our current situation. It's also getting a bit tiresome to constantly read that I'm out of touch for believing we can be a premiership side. I've never claimed such thing. I just thought it disappointing that our manager doesn’t believe that there'll ever be a time when we can challenge again for promotion to the premiership. I think there's every chance that in the future we can establish ourselves as a championship side and put up a promotion challenge every now and again. That is a world away from claiming we will one day be premiership force. I'm a bit disappointed that people have chosen to argue against something that has never been said.

    Steady on

It seems like we're on the same wavelength here. Shouldn't you be berating me for being a bit of a dick and being part of Wartog's crewe.

Just a thought like, 5 years ago Sam allardyce took over as Manager of Bolton and they were below us in the league. Now they're in Europe and one win off no 2 spot in prem. Just a thought like, but if we hadn't taken this time appointing obvious and comfy options as managers would we be in a better position???? I know they struck lucky, but when was the last time we advertised our post and took time to appoint best candidate??

RE: Yeah Premiership is our goal

Exactly, but you still buy a lottery ticket because there's that chance, no matter how hard or slim. If he had said "getting there will be very hard" for example, it would be fine. That's being realistic. Saying "never" is a poor choice of words and suggests a poor attitude.

    A poor choice of words

Seems to be the sort of thing that can have fans calling for your head at this club.

It's (only just) October and we've already got a section of fans winding up for a lynching.

Maybe the reason we didn't appoint another manager in the summer wis that we tried, but found that anyone with half a brain doesn't want a job with a sacking club.

    You're right Jay

I didn't hear the interview, but I understand the points being made. Richie said something that showed a lack of ambition so ... so ... so ...

    Get rid?

That's what this is building up to even if you didn't directly say it. Any opportunity for people to get on his back because they want someone who they feel is better. Two bad results and the campaign starts. This week we win and it's, lets find fault in something he said because we can't fault what he did.

The thing is nobody of any callibre will want to be the next Barnsley fall guy. So even if Richie isn't up to the expected standard of our fans, we've sacked so many managers recently we'd struggle to attract anyone from anywhere - never mind someone we want.

So lets just get behind the team, rather than engaging in our annual sport of 'pick holes in the manager until we get him sacked'. I'm bored of that game.

    Apparently said...

Like Jay pointed out. I didn't hear the interview first hand. I'm just unhappy about what looks to be the start of a Richie OUT movement.
