Surely it was only after the second goal went in against Bradford Helen? Up til then the crowd was on the verge of nervous meltdown. Thaty my memory of it anyway.
Can’t help thinking that this season will see a repeat of that. The force is with us and if it continues nothing can stop us. On the other hand....QPR away tomorrow!
Think the nerves made it a better atmosphere overall but for me personally the Wilkinson goal was the one that I celebrated as getting to the Prem, Clint's was the icing in the cake
I was there! John Saunders scored for us having been told by Clarkie, the day before, that he could leave on a free
Do you know what, the only Championship play off game that Oakwell hosted was crap. We had beaten Brum 4-0 so it was already game over, Oakwell didn't even sell out, Brum brought a couple of thousand and the game and atmosphere was *****. A couple of weeks later over 36,000 went to Wembley, barely 16,000 turned up to Oakwell
It was a crap game too. We just sat in and tried not to f ook it up. I felt better when Dyer put it to bed.
I watched one of the floodlights for 30 mins, l recall only two or three birds sitting on the pylons.
Yep. Pretty darn good. There are some games you wish you could go back and experience again and that's one of them. I think that was the first time I'd ever seen anything like 20k in Oakwell.
Remarkable crowd for a Fourth Division game and the atmosphere was well charged. Grimsby had Mike Lester playing for them and he signed for us that summer - silky smooth midfielder.
Always liked Mike Lester. Good player with just an edge of devilment about him. Dark arts as it's known these days.
Anyone remember the noise Oakwell made when Hassell.headed in an equaliser vs Newcastle in stoppage time to.make it 2 all?
The FA Cup replay against Leicester when Joachim scored their brilliant goal and Archdeacon equalised with a long range screamer. Then the penalties ......
Yeah that was an unreal night. Oakwell was bouncing but we were convinced there was more than 21k in there.
I'm old enough to remember not only the Bradford game and PL games like the Liverpool / Willard fiasco but also the epic League cup ties of the early 80s against Man city and both home and away against Liverpool 30 odd thousand inside Oakwell in full voice was quite electrifying.
Heard the 1912 F A cup was manic, rattles were splintering and 5 men lost their hats and at least 2 people swallowed their pipes but not sure of the gender on that
