Hmm

It has always been, as far as I am aware, that if a player is within playing distance of the ball, he can use his body to prevent an opposing player taking possession.
If a player does this to an opposing player when the ball is not close enough to be playable, then that constitutes obstruction and an indirect free kick.

So I'm with Souza on this one - he was fouled.

Blatant foul. Could not believe my eyes when I saw it on the championship this morning. You can't blame Souza. He did what any other defender would have done and tried to keep possession and get rid of the pressure by winning a goal kick. We just aint getting any luck with referees at the moment. You may blame the referee but if we had won yesterday then that decision would still have cost us a goal!

    Your forgetting one important thing.

There has to be some intention to play the ball as well. Strikers often get penalised for doing exactly the same at the opposite end.

If we had scored the goal then people would see an entirely different picture.

He did more than pull his shirt mate.

He swung him round and threw him into the photographers.

Souza should've just put the ball into touch - end of.

Although I agree, it was a foul. We shouldn't be debating about that.

exactly-from now on I expect to see a hoofing clearance from Souza instead of shepherding it out nt

Souza had run the bull out of play.

It had gone. So double fck up by the officials. Dead reight.

Well, that's debatable. However, the point is this.

Souza had every option of clearing his lines, and thus preventing the chance that Mellor may 'outmuscle' him and keep the ball in play. If he had put it out for a throw in, we would have potentially not conceded the goal. Simple stuff really.

The ball was out. Souza was fouled.

If we'd have not messed about between Hassel and Foster prior to that...

    If if if.

The ball was out, Souza was fouled.

    Sorry, can't fully blame Souza.

Firstly, I think it was a foul, and possibly the ball went out.

However, there was a **** up to be mentioned. Watch the few seconds before Souza was put into that situation. Why oh why do we constantly **** about TRYING to play pretty touchline stuff when it has been abundantly clear over the last couple of seasons that we have neither the skill or the confidence to do so. That ball should have been hoofed up to KO / Macken to deal with; maybe nothing would have come of it but that option would have been much more preferable than putting ourselves under pressure. Again ! !

The rule only says that the ball must be within playing distance, not that an attempt must be made to play it.
