Jack was indeed Mr BFC.Home and away never missed no matter how big or small the game was.Jack missed the Chester game because he was unwell but his main concern was how the reds were doing.I was telling some of the lads after the Walsall game that Jack wasn't very well and they all showed concern for him.He was well known by all the various supporters clubs because of his involvement with the Hoyland Reds (Mount branch).Jacks daughter rang us on Sunday morning to let us know of his passing and his fight for life had ended. We all mourn and miss our parents, grand parents etc but that's on a personal level. This is a BFC message board and Jack was one our own.Condlances to his wife Janet and family and I will applaud his memory on saturday as one reds fan to another. RIP

All our fans that pass away deserve a minutes applause/silence it dunt cost owt. Maybe a mass one at the end of the season or the Chrimbo game. where names can be read out during the silence.

    R.I.P. Jack.

Obviously things are a bit sensitive for all concerned at the moment, and I can see the points and offer sincere condolences to all concerned, but wouldn't it be better to have a set time, before a game/ half time etc when the club could read out the names of any deceased fans and let other fans pay their respect and have a combined applause or even consecutively?
The thing is each time this happens each family will feel the loss as much as any and if theirs for some reason it isn't picked up will feel hurt, and it gets confusing and risks getting overlooked if it coincides with a particularly hectic time on the pitch.
oops just seen the post above saying similar and agree an annual event would be a great idea too

To be honest, I'd be very surprised if many people didn't know Jack Mawby, if not to talk to, by sight. Very rare that he missed a game, home or away and that's been the case for most of his life as far as I know.

I'll be clapping him in the 81st minute - his passing certainly puts in perspective for me how unimportant our current run of results is or whether Danny Wilson remains our manager or not. Some things are just more important.

    RIP Jack. A true gentleman

You said essentially what I meant, in a much better way than my early morning self did.

Doing them all before last game of season, as opposed to picking out one or two fans and forgetting the rest, seems like a much better way to me.

When springvale reds dad (i think) passed away there was a minutes applause then shortly after somebody else posted requesting one when their dad had died and it didnt happen. Thats my issue with it. It is about disrespecting/ignoring those who dont get one. And who decides who is worthy? I just dont like the idea that some fans are more deserving than others so while I absolutely sympathise with anyone who has lost or who loses somebody close to them I feel it is fairer and more appropriate to have a remembrance once a season for everybody who has lost someone. I also think that the club should create a remembrance area at the ground. The current bricks are largely ignored and regardless of what we pretend they are they are just stuck on facias. The plaques in the stand too look so unloved just propped up against essentially a large whiteboard. Would be really good to have a proper memorial area created where anybody can add names to it, put flowers and go to pay their respects.
I wonder how much the memorial company at the top of oakwell lane would charge for a large granite memorial. Would be really classy if names could be added to it regularly too.

    R.I P Jack and ESL's grandad.
I will be joining in the applause and I will be aiming it at both of them.
Also wouldn't mind doing it at every match if requested I think its a great gesture.

I'd happily have a minutes applause prior to kick off every time a family requested it for a fan who passes away. He was one of us, a long suffering reds fan.... He deserves a good send off. Rest in peace jack, and if your family are reading this sorry for your loss.

    I just think it
    A) loses its special something if it happens too often
    and
    B) is disrespectful to all others that have died, that they were deemed unworthy of a minutes applause. Like someone else said, if it happened every game, one would be missed eventually due to people, you know, watching the game and not the clock. Wouldn't feel great if it's your loved one that got missed off.

Be better announcing them all before last game of season, and having a proper minutes applause, without half the crowd asking what it's for, and the other half clapping just because they'd been told to, rather than because they're remembering someone they knew.

That's the thing about a debate everything's on the table and discussed and hopefully something good comes out of it.
I would go along with that idea I think it would give fans and club alike to show the respect and gratitude they deserve.
Maybe an applause for fans, players and officials who have passed away during the season last game of season would be a good idea.

should only be for long serving players and staff etc

If i never missed a reds game home or away for 50 years I wouldn't expect anything

Exactly, people that the majority of the people watching the game have actually heard of, not applauding just because they've been told to, without even knowing the person who died.

Nott necessarily, I'm all for doing it before lasts game of season when everyone can hear the names of all the people they're clapping for. All those that don't use social media/this forum wont know about this minutes applause, it'll just be random applause for (what seems like) no reason

Like it was for the Burton ladies player when folks applauded that to the noise of many wondering what was going off. I'm all for a minutes applause before the last home game of a season for those who want to remember fans who have passed to share their respects and those who think a football match isn't a place for that kinda thing to know when it's happening so turn up later for kick off.

My sincere condolences here. Always sorry to here this sort of news.

Can I just throw a wee suggestion in here. Why not a short announcement over the tannoy at H/T.

    Covers all bases IMO.

That would require the club to be competent.
