RE: are you from anywhere near oslo? nt I'm from a town called Sandefjord about an hour and a half south of Oslo
RE: Eyup and welcome! Why Barnsley... that's a hard question. I started following Barnsley during the season in the premiership and got totally hooked! I wanted to cheer on a team that most people here in Norway wasn't obsessed with and found Barnsley to be that club. I also met with an English barnsley fan in Sweden when I watched a pre season game against Stenungsund back in 1999 and we exchanged letters for quite some time (this was before the email took off haha) which was nice because then I got to "talk" to the fans of the club which made me even more interested in barnsley. I don't know exactly when I will be back at Oakwell, but it will be sometime this season for sure. Probably sometime during spring.
RE: Welcome aboard I browsed through the "fans abroad" section at the official website the other day, and it looks like there are quite a few foreign fans.
RE: Eyup and welcome! Great stuff. Shame you can't come over sooner. Hope we have a few games on satalite tv for you. whats the weather like in Norway? as I sit here in Barnsley tarn centre the Sun is beating down, beautiful
RE: Eyup and welcome! yes, I hope to catch some of the games on TV. Last season I managed to see something like 6 - 8 games in total including the FA cup, CCC and the game I attended against WBA. Not that bad, but I would love to have watched them all! In Sandefjord, Norway, the weather is beautiful too. It's a shame to be inside working. Looking forward to a few beers in the sun tonight!
Good luck with the local accent.. It baffles most English speakers, but you'll get used to it. I think Tomi has.
Didn't say it was bad.. but given that people.. living much closer to us than Norway seem to struggle with the Barnsley accent, just thought maybe our new friend may as well.
theres a few different accents within Barnsley Borough. Don't think Barnsley is least comprehensible.
yes but people outside the Borough.. may not notice that difference. I have been amongst people from all over Yorkshire, & to Southerners in particular, they haven't picked up on the differences in our accents.
RE: yes but people outside the Borough.. yes I suppose, think the accent is not as strong these days too. But for example a Kendray/Wusbro accent is completely different to a Royston accent.
