As for the demenstration, absolutely disgusting made my blood boil watching it. I won't comment any further as not doubt the usual suspects will come at me with the racist label and then there's the nauseating type who feel the need to stick up for the muslims no matter what they do.

Scary stuff!

What a scary thread this is! One voice of reason (Eaststander) amongst numerous posts espousing violence and hatred befitting Nazi Germany. Whilst I am in agreement that what was done was disgusting (on the part of the protesters) I am amazed that the Police are criticised for preventing mass disorder and violence. I was interested to find out that the BNP regularly stand in Barnsley Town Centre and have, in the past, stated that 'We will all be Muslim in 20 years' and that Assylum seekers are coming over here taking our jobs. There are less than 200 assylum seekers in Barnsley, (mostly from Zimbabwe) and amongst the 225,000 residents of Barnsley, less than 500 are muslim. Most of the assylum seekers are non muslim also.</p>

So whilst thinking that the protesters against the Royal Anglians are disgusting and should be dealt with properly under the Public Order Act, I'd ask you to remember what we fought the second world war for and why we are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. Freedom of speech, the right to protest, the right to life and liberty apply to everyone, BNP, Muslim, Sheffield folk etc. If we are to allow free speech then we allow it to everyone, not just to those who agree with us or say things we want to hear. Whilst expressing concern about the 'plight' of our country please don't fall into the media driven mentality that tars everyone with the same brush. Are you feeling the same about the Irish at the moment? Are you feeling the same about the Polish community who have been established in Barnsley for the last 60+ years, who fought to win the Battle of Britain with us? Do you feel the same about the Gurkhas who are part of our army and have been refused entry to our country? Where do you define Britishness and say who is right? Who are you to tell me what to think? Please moderate your thoughts - be angry, it is your right, be disgusted by someone elses actions - it is your right, but express your thoughts without lowering yourself to a mindless level, which defines everyone with blue eyes and blonde hair as being a superior race! Oooops, sorry, wrong decade!

What about the fact that they are living here and are British citizens? Does that not mean anything to them? This was a parade for soldiers who have been sent to war, they didn't choose to go. The British public is, and should be, proud of our armed forces for the job that they do. If you are not then can you really be British? It is still the same armed forces that won the World Wars remember, that gave us our way of life. If they want to protest then they should do it against the government, they would still get the same coverage. Where they chose to protest meant that it was always likely to get volatile (feelings run deep on both sides) so they should have been prevented by the police, just as I feel it would have if it had been a Muslim event and 'white' protesters. But from the point of view of the protesters, they are dispicable for doing it, serious lack of respect for something very British.

 

Should make everyone without a job do 2 years national service, that would sort the wheat from the .

you have jumped to the conclusion that because of my post, I am an anti British, namby pamby, do gooder who condones what went on. I do not condone it for one second and am as disgusted as yo are by what went on. What disgusts me even more is the fact that people can write such racist hatred as burn down their mosques and send them back to where they came from - generalising about 'all moslems' - bradford being full of asians - whiteness does not equate to britishness. When I was growing up I was under the impression that I would be able to wander the world and have free choice as to where I lived, because I was a human being, not because I was white british. I may not believe in the same things as you about many things, I may not be a royalist, a political idealist, a person who opposes war, a vegetarian - but what I do want is the right to decide these things for myself and not to have to conform to what people expect me to be because I live in a certain place. Some of theposts on here about this have been sickening in their tone and reflects the shallow thinking that goes on as soon as anyone mentions the word race. Please re read my post and consider what you have written in reply.
