Usual up his own arse interview. However he does say it's fantastic we stayed up and he praises our owner so it wasn't all Tarn Bashing.
Just listened to it. Agree with the vast majority of what he said, as I used to do when he was here. But he spoils it by suggesting the supporters expect us to be challenging for the playoffs. Couldn't help but laugh when he basically tried comparing his time at Barnsley, to that of Martinez at Wigan. Fair play to him for putting some quality spin on his eventual failure. Because as sad as it is for me to say it, tha did fail Keith. Not in all respects. You got a lot right, and Flicker benefited from some of that last season. But you were a lovely person with the fanbase, nearly ruined Wiseman's career, were a lovely person with a few of our better players, and the football and results in your last 12 months here, were - in the main - as horrific as it gets. Still love thi though. Yer gret pillock.
I will be in the minority here but I agree with a lot of what he says. Apart from one major part. I do think that if Keith was given say 10 years, he would have done a decent job. However, the reality of football these days is that you are not given 10 years. The cost of relegation is too great. We were struggling big time when he left and something had to be done to kickstart things. It was, it did and we stayed up. Had Keith remained in charge we wouldn't have stayed up it is pretty safe to say. I think he is a decent manager. However he misjudged a lot of things. One of the main things he misjudged was the fans. I predicted early that this would be his demise and I think it was. You can't take on the fans at any club and win. You will always lose. He seemed to think that the fans expectations were too great and entered into battle with them. Football fans by their nature are slightly unrealistic; it is this hopeless optimism that keeps us going! In any event he misjudged the majority of fans expectations (whether this was deliberate or not, I'm not sure) - the majority want a club in the mid tier of the Championship; suggesting we wanted top 6 is I'm afraid Keith, absolute b0ll0cks. As a result of this misjudgment, he lost their support. Had he not entered into battle with them I suspect that the board may have stuck with him until the end of the season and given him a crack at promotion from League One.
Played some of our best footy for years during his period of management If the board had backed him rather than sell our best players it could have been a different story
one of, if not the, worst Barnsley managers i've been unfortunate to experience in my 25 years following the Club. complete pi$$ and wind, alienated both the fans and the board, and played some absolutely dreadful football in the process. true to form, whinging about every external factor available. so glad that c0ck end is out.
Alienated the fans ! Best the manager talk bllks and his team give abject performances then eh ? Hang on a minute ...
In 2012, all under Hill, we were absolutely terrible. That being said, we've probably been worse since the start of the new season. I wanted it to work for Keith Hill but the fact that Flitcroft kept us up with pretty much the same players shows he wasn't able to get the best out of them and we would have almost certainly gone down if we'd have kept faith with him. Maybe we are just delaying the inevitable but it's not like we are cut adrift at the moment so it's not something I will accept. I suppose the hope is that financial fair play will continue to level the playing field and we will not be constantly in a relegation scrap if it achieves what it set out to.
i'm not talking about anyone else. i'm talking about keith hill. and keith hill was $hite. absolute $hite. and were it not for the fella you're referring to, we wouldn't be sat here worrying about staying in the Championship for another season.
I thought I liked his interviews, but listening to that I'm so relieved I don't have to hear him spouting the same defensive scapegoating twaddle week-in, week-out. The bit where he said the fans expect the play offs really annoyed me. To say that after he left. He should see the support from the fans that Flicker has at second from bottom and a worse points tally to realise that that's utter bllcks
At the end of the day The fact remains that he left the club with the worst statistical managerial record in this clubs 125 year history. Just that.
