i stand corrected thought i had read somewhere recently he had been born up here, thought it was strange at the time
Mate of mine is a Leeds fan not seen him until the pub tonight but i know he'll be drowning his sorrows, and i do feel sorry for him. When he can't get to Leeds away matches he comes along and cheers us along if we're at home. To tar him with the same brush as the arrogant Leeds Knobheads is really unfair. It's a bit like saying all muslims are suicide bombers.
You should talk to my Aunty Pauline She'd make you feel different. She's in her sixties now and no longer goes, the club is not that club of Billy Bremner she fell in love with. She was a season ticket holder and no nicer person do I know on this planet. There may have been plenty of scum who attached themselves to Leeds, but they were not all like that anyed d they do not deserve their club to be destroyed by greed.
Agree well said....My mate I've known for yrs is a Leeds fan and it hurts to see him not been full of confidence for the coming season his head is full of doubts and hes started having anxiety attacks over all whats happening to his 2nd love in life ''Leeds ''.... No not really i couldn't give a flying fook about him really cause he's full of himself .... ( .... But i feel for the rest of them (fans) .... (Y) ....
Fair and reasoned comments which I completely respect I still hope they go bust though and Leeds fans all stew in their self made cesspit
I am living in Ealing at the moment I'm going to try and get a statue errected in the local park- Bates in a Billy Bremner pose
I'm just glad the league didn't let them get away with it True we were in a similar situation once of being in administration, but lets not pretend it was the same. Our trip into administration wasn't a cynical and calculating move to defraud people and steal their money, we were geniunely broke due to a series of unfortunate circumstances and poor financial management. I believe though that our administration was a genuine mistake due either to bad management or naivety. Leeds (or rather Bates) just tried to rip people off and steal from them ... as well as trying to cheat and get around the rules designed to prevent what they were doing. For a while I was concerned that the league might fudge it and let Leeds off, but they are showing some bottle and for that I am genuinely pleased. In no way is Bates a hero, he's a villan. I think Leeds would probably be in this mess anyway with someone else at the helm, so lets not give Bates any credit. I'm really pleased Leeds have had the points deducted, it made a very pleasant sunny day even more enjoyable. I hope they go down next season, but like Harrow I hope they stay in business and suffer. Then maybe their fans won't be such big time charlies, and I'll drop my hatred and settle for a more healthy strong dislike instead. I have a vague hope that the Leeds United story will be a lesson to the Premiership clubs, that one bad season can send you from Champions League to oblivion. The Premier league clubs think they can carry on in their little elite with everyone earning mega money while the rest struggle. What would have happened to Tottenham, if we'd have just been a little bit better? One freak season, one bad manager, and look what can happen> Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, it's unlikely but it could happen ... and they' d go bust in the Championshio. I don't think the Premiership clubs will take the blindest bit of notice of Leeds and their plight, I'm just glad the league are holding onto their principles and not letting them find loopholes in the rules. I'm enjoying seeing Leeds in this mess, like I wouldn't for many other clubs, but I certainly won't be giving Bates hero status ... he's scum
I'm living in Ealing too at the moment And I'm campaigning for a special "Ken Bates Day", already spoke to the town hall and there ready to play ball. Another idea is to get a bus named after him
RE: Mate of mine is a Leeds fan working in Leeds and enjoying every minute of it, they really are getting it big time, and the 15 points is the icing on the cake, bless em, big club my @rse
Charlie Buchan's Football Monthly November 1968 Sorry to sound even more like an anorak, but you will find on the shelves of most bookshops a book titled 'The Best of Charlie Buchan's Football Monthly 1951-1971.' It is an interesting read if you have the odd half hour to browse whilst the wife does the shopping, but probably not worth the £17 to buy. On page 152, there is an article titled, 'What went wrong at Oldham?' It describes how a 35 year-old London businessman took over the Latics promising to take them into Europe within ten years. The young businessman was called KEN BATES and was ambitious to make his name in football as a business. It went pear-shape and the Latics ended up being relegated, Bates being blamed by the fans and the fans being blamed by Bates. Bates was away on holiday for the lowest of days, the article states. Remember that this was written at the time in 1968! It looks as though what goes around comes around for some! Incidentally, there is also a letter to the editor, written from a fifteen year-old schoolboy named John Motson from Bury St Edmunds. Right - better find if my wife's finished the shopping then!
