Utter ********. Hassell signed first - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23035978 Followed by Cranie a day later - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23049445 And Steele the day after that - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23062984
Me too. I like him a lot. I like all the players we retained. Well, I don't think Kennedy is all that great, but I don't think he is as bad as is often made out. I've seen him have a number of good games. A fair few bad ones too like.
I think if you look at Cranies record he always seems to have played at clubs that have been relegated or nearly relegated. He's either very unlucky or not very good....best to let him go.
I suppose I've been unrealistic, but I was hoping that we'd somehow be able to keep the likes of Steele, Cranie, O'Grady & Jennings. If any, or all, of these lads move on, then I thank them, wish them all the best in their respective careers (except when they play us) and move on. No sneering comments, just look forward to see who we bring in to our club.
No I rate him I think he it's one of the best defensive players in the league we find ourselves in. I just can't see many championship teams knocking on our door. He's a bit of a Jonah isn't he!
Nowhere near as bad a relegation record as Neil Redfearn, John Hendrie & Ashley Ward. I rated and liked those three, too.
Totally irrelevant. The argument is he's not very good because he's been relegated with Coventry & Barnsley. The three legends I mentioned have more relegations on their CV, so if the argument holds any water then it has to be accepted they're not very good, either. My argument is I thought they were all good players (although not of the same standard), liked & rated them all and that opinion isn't affected by relegation at Barnsley and their other clubs.
In fairness being relegated from the Premier Division isn't as bad as a relegation from the Championship.
Come off it lads. Both Cranie & Steele are decent championship players. The argument that because they've been in relegation battles most seasons they're no good at this level is beyond stupid. They've both been 2 of the better players for their clubs for the past 5 seasons at least, not every one in a squad that does bad are poor players & not everyone in a squad that does well are good players. As for 'they're no good cos they took ages to sign cos they couldn't find another club'. Well that's another stupid argument. There's many reasons why they might stay with Barnsley - Been away for several weeks on holidays & couldn't be arsed dealing with it knowing that the club has to leave the offer there for 30 days Not guaranteed regular football at a bigger / better club Don't want to uproot family Want to stay due to a good team spirit (which there was here) Another manager might say 'we can only afford one goalkeeper / defender but we're in for so & so or waiting to sell so & so but I'd like to have you here if possible - so the player waits to make a decision It financially doesn't make sense e.g a grand a week more might sound great but if it's London then you're probably no better off Anyone using the argument 'he's **** cos he didn't go to a bigger club when he was out of contract' is making themselves look a bit of an idiot IMO
you're not. i would say the vast majority also do. me included. it's more a response at coco's latest veiled attack on luke steele
I agree. Though all those players had outstanding seasons whilst being relegated (for the most part) and I think defenders who are part of a notorious porous defence are a harder sell. At least I hope so I really want him to stay.
But all three have accumulated more relegations than Cranie and it's not held against them. If it's not held against those three, then it shouldn't be held against Cranie.
I quite agree. Like you I rate him but unlike the other three with the exception of a handful of games for Portsmouth his career seems to have been mostly spent in the Championship. Personally I hope he stays.
