Yep. But it wasn’t an overwhelming opinion I had. A lot of ‘think’ and ‘should’ based on the unknown. I was also leaning towards Brook on fight night and even more so after the ring walk.
Mentioning Munguia is relevant. Young kid, former junior middleweight champion, just packed out Tijuana for a bit of a homecoming fight. What does he do after he wins? Says he’s ready to fight all the champions at middleweight. Meanwhile we’ve got Eubank JR almost begging live on Sky Sports for Kell Brook to move up to 160 and fight him. When even though Kell looked impressive, he was still way, way short of being a legit contender. I swear Eubank JR just wants to go 12 rounds with Golovkin.
I don't mind Jnr but he's embarrassing himself calling out someone older than him and no longer in his prime, when he himself is still without a world title at the age his dad retired at after holding a world title for years.
Decent dust up from 2 fighters past their prime' if they wanted this fight to be relevant it should have been made 10 years ago when they were both in their prime' they've both taken the big pay day now its time to hang up the gloves' nobody wants to see em become punchbags for the young hungry fighters looking for a big scalp....
Don’t quite get the age thing. Is 35 that old these days? Isn’t the fact they’ve been out of the game for so long, more relevant? Fair play to Khan. His heart isn’t in it and he’s been honest about it. No one wants to see him go in the ring and get smashed.
Him & Benn are pathetic. Desperate for a pay day against a past it fighters stead of trying to prove themselves in their own divisions. I hope Brook tells them where to go. If he finishes now there’s no shame in only losing to Golovkin, Spence & Crawford. You don’t want to be adding Eubank or Benn to that list but I know money talks.
Oh don’t get me wrong it was a fun fight for 3 or 4 rounds. And the fact that they are both past their best sort of made it interesting and difficult to predict. I also don’t mind older fighters getting a big payday as it’s such a dangerous sport. But honestly, Brook is miles off European level these days. He was knackered after 3 rounds! His slow feet were not exposed as Khan kept wandering into his wheelhouse and didn’t have to go looking for him. He used his power and experience well, but Khan was easy pickings.
Really? Think it’s a very easy night for Junior. Don’t get me wrong, 5 years ago a very different story.
Eubank is the most overhyped/overrated boxer in the U.K. he’s hardly fought anyone decent and when he has, he’s lost.
He’s beat some more than decent level domestic fighters. Which is all Kell Brook is these days when you start moving him up to 160 against someone who not that long ago was beating Yildrim, Degale and Abraham at 168.
I don’t rate Junior, but he’d be a big favourite against Brook. Kell should cash out. He’s had a great career, there’s nothing to gain from continuing.
I don’t think he could at 160. He’ll out box him for a few rounds but I think he’d get stopped mid to late. It’s a long fight when you’re 35 against someone bigger, stronger & fitter. If he brings him down in weight then it’s potentially a different story.
Sorry - I'm talking in pounds and weight divisions. Kell Brook essentially fought Khan at welterweight (147). Eubank JR was recently fighting at Super Middleweight (168) where he beat Abraham, Degale and Yildrim, but has come back down to Middleweight (160) in his last 3/4 fights. Two division jump for Kell who's only a little fella.
