For the smug carnies.
Y Goch will also be able to tell you about the 90% protein loss when crops are fed to your burger cattle in countries where nutrition for humans is at a premium.

RE: For the smug eater of organic True, but its much worse in organic systems and also in terms of methane production. Fortunately most of us eat more sheep from rough grasslands than beef and even a veggie cannot graze hill pasture.
So not only are meat eaters an ecological and environmental disaster....
....but they're directly responsible for human suffering and death as well.
Boo! Carnies. Booooo!

RE: For the smug eater of organic If its got four legs and it bleeds, I'll eat it, don't much matter what age its culled.... By the way congratulations on the book, I'm always shocked to find such distinguished folk as you on a site such as ours, meaning intelligence wise and mixing with the commoners such as i.... But ffs 70''notes for a Book WTF' I've to feed me and our lass a month on that.... Hope it sells OK for you.... (clap) ....
cheers Yes I agree 70 quid is an outrage I assume the logic is that only libraries will buy it in hard back. And that's someone else’s money they are spending. And I don't expect to see more than a few quid for all my efforts.
No you got me there Please explain. Sure eating beef is an issue, but pork and chicken can be an excellent method of recycling. OK - Can be, but isn’t. And most of the sites of conservation interest in the UK are created and maintained by grazing farm animals. So where is the ecological disaster there?
I wasn't referring to the UK. I'm talking global.
I was referring to the vast tracts of land, South American slash and burn included, given over to burger-cattle crops.
BTW I'm not doubting you, I know you know your stuff, but "most of the sites of conservation interest in the UK are created and maintained by grazing farm animals," did you mean that? Is that right?

RE: I wasn't referring to the UK. I'm talking global. I will not disagree with that. Its not easy finding a veggie in south america. But then much of what they produce is exported to the USA and they have thing for beef, which is just not sustainable.
