Never met him. Dint need to. Knew he was a complete bell end when he started slating the club and the fans before August was out. It went downhill from there.
It's good to see Keith Hill doing a great job at Rochdale. Personally, I believe he is a good fit for this level of football and hope he can get Rochdale promoted through the leagues. His biggest problem was rolling into Oakwell, a long standing Championship team with solid pedigree.....and thinking he was Mourinho. He simply didn't understand the size of the club, the quality of player required, the fans, etc. He just thought "I am Keith and I know what's best".....big mistake. What annoys me to this day, is he admits no mistakes during his tenure at BFC.......and there were many.
Right knob head Hill , embarrassing to watch when he was being interviewed . He spoke no better than a Sunday league manager .**** off Hill .
funny really, keef slaughtered Barnsley fans for daring to talk about our past, wonder if he has the same opinion when dale fans talk about his past ?
Yes he did. You may feel different, but more than a minority felt they were attacked by him at regular intervals. His arrogance set him apart from most fans, while some like Dyson loved his stupid clothes and swagger, others like myself and a fair few others on here thought he was just a fool.
you obviously didn't think so and am sure there are others too, keef hill is footballs answer to marmite, am with madmark and conan on this 1
I remember, under constant provocation from Radio Sheffield presenters, him commenting on fans that created a negative impatient atmosphere and those that believed we should be winning the league having unrealistic expectations. But I can't see how that would offend anyone unless they were one of those fans. He was regularly complimentary about our club and our support, it was just lost in the odd quotes that were picked out by a radio station with an agenda. But he should have been more savvy to that. What I do accept is that he was an opinionated loudmouth who enjoyed being obtuse, and that will always wind some people up. And as Jay pointed out early in his reign that's fine when your winning but people will soon lose patience when things aren't going well.
Oh I can see that. Still my second favourite Barnsley manager though. My thoughts are summed up by this Simpsons quote about Homer: Apu: "He slept, he stole, he was rude to the customers. Still, there goes the best damned employee a convenience store ever had."
You did notice it was in reply to a post calling him a "joke" manager? That was the evidence that he clearly isn't.
One of the first things he said after walking through the door was "I've read the history books - what history?" Why would anyone say that about the club they are supposed to be representing? Dismissing the club's achievements in one retarded sentence. There was no need for him to say that. He hadn't been provoked. It was just another example of his shocking and unjustified arrogance and a sign of what was to come. Absolute ******.
But what was the context of that quote, what was the question, the tone of the answer, what was said before and after it? Hill regularly got peed off because he felt there was a lack of understanding of the constraints he was working under which I felt was a valid point. He was provoked repeatedly by interviewers on the subject for a soundbite which usually came in the middle of a reasoned response. But I agree he should have cottoned on to that and he let his ego get in the way.
There is very little context where a comment like that would be valid whether you're managing Man Utd, Accrington Stanley or Barnsley. It's just completely disrespectful. He hadn't been provoked at this point and rarely was in the very early days. In fact, to say how poor he was he actually received a lot of support and goodwill from the Barnsley faithful. Despite his low opinion of us all.
Wasn't be saying the club's recent history was fighting relegation from the championship? I genuinely never felt disrespected by him. He clearly outlined his plan and philosophy when he arrived in an open letter to the fans and, IMHO, stayed true to that and lost his job because he wasn't able to produce results that belied his resources
