In fairness i think Mowatt was a victim of circumstance. He bombed on his debut and never recovered under Heckingbottom.
When we signed Styles, we were in League 1 with Dougall, Mowatt and McGeehan playing well enough to mean we didn't need players to come in and improve the midfield like we need for our forward line now. We also didn't have midfield equivalent to Aitchison, Brammall, Simoes and Thomas out on loan with Vic, Miller and Schmidt on the sidelines. There's a week of the window left. Surely a forward to come in and improve the first 11 should be a priority. They may see Joseph as that player (would hope so for the wages offered). Can't see the point of having another young forward out on loan.
Maybe enough staff, not sure about resources, particularly if we are offering him the sort of salary being quoted. We have a squad with Miller, Schmidt, Simoes, Thomas, Bramall, Aitchison, Marsh all under 23 as well has Adeboyejo who has just turned 23. We cannot develop them all, if we don't make our minds up on who is worth persevering with, then it will be to the detriment of them all.
But that’s our strategy , buy young ,develop and sell on . Obviously there’s gonna be wheat and chaff as the club acknowledges but to buy young players isn’t gonna change anytime soon imo .
I have absolutely no problem with buying young players to develop them. But if they are getting a salary not too far off what first teamers are getting, then it becomes an issue, because they're the players that are difficult to move on if it doesn't work out for them. That said, given our system, the club may see him as an option for now, alongside Morris and Woodrow, with Chaplin / Vic / Frieser on the bench.
Probably so , I think you could be right and that could be the telling factor in his decision making . He may not want to be stuck in anyone’s reserve side and looking at our strategy there’s a clear path to the first team more so than the other teams interested imo .
