The current restrictions suffer from the same thing as the lockdown proposal. The potential good is far outweighed by the negative impact.

To be fair I don't think it's the right approach at all, but if schools stay open even its most basic principle is undermined

Well, yeah. I wonder whether a regular planned 'circuit break' would also help the industries - like yours - that have been hit even harder than mine. Three weeks of more or less normal life followed by a total lockdown for one, repeated for as long as it takes.

I'm also not sure it's the answer, but if we're going for some form of lockdown that's what I'd go for

At the moment with cases rising and more areas set to go into tier 2 where they have more restrictions especially in the hospitality sector a lockdown would be better for most of them as they will struggle to run with no support.

It's sad to say for the industry but they are better closing and getting wages paid than slowly becoming unviable and putting people out of work.

Doing it over half term would mean as little disruption as possible and less contact for people.

Starmer has played his cards close to his chest but he has just gone all in and Boris has nowhere to go, If he continues how we are things will only get worse and if he takes Starmer up on this it shows his weakness and lack of leadership.

It shouldn't have come to this but we have suffered mistake after mistake and something had to give.

That will absolutely kill thousands of businesses and achieve nothing.

I can only speak from my own experience, but as I said up the thread it would probably be much better for mine. We'd much prefer a regular shut down you can plan around than a slow strangulation. Whether it would achieve anything I'm not sure, but I just remember it being raised as an option some time back.

I wouldn't bother with a lockdown. Cases will go back up when it's over and then people will want to lock down for a third time. Education is one of the worst places for infections and yet they would be kept open which defeats the point. It would only work if everything but healthcare shut so even the supermarkets so everyone would have to stockpile a few weeks of stuff.

A few weeks ago when it looked like boris was going to do a circuit breaker lockdown he was saying it shouldn't happen and would have catastrophic effects on the economy now he has changed his tune to point score. Clowns both him and boris

It makes no sense lockdown as many times as you want will be back to square one months later. All it will do will destroy peoples businesses and livelihoods

SAGE advice was available to him then. As evidence changes then views may change. That seems reasonable whether you support another lockdown or not.

He has gone off advice all along and got hammered for it. Another lockdown would be disastrous, I watched a video of a gym owner in liverpool yesterday he looked in bits and said he wouldnt be taking part in the stage 3 lockdown as he wouldnt have a business to go back to after it was finished. He said if gets fined or arrested so be it. Imagine that for all the country.
I dont agree with staged lockdowns or full national lockdown. In a few months we will be back to square one again the last one was a waste of time. It's not going away we are going to have to learn to live with it unfortunately.

Half term lockdown, logistically isn't practical, to my knowledge some schools in some authorities have already started it, others it's next week and others the week after, some have 1 week, some 2. So which half term we talking about?
