    My stance

If the aid is detrimental or potentially detrimental to the long term health of the athlete, ban it. If the aid is excessively expensive and detectable through testing, ban it.

The altitude training thing is interesting because the trigger for EPO test failure was a hematocrit level of over 50%. Altitude training would also boost hematocrit so would probably trigger the same test fail. Unless of course this shows the extraordinarily high effects of EPO compared to natural methods.

thing is he has also sued people and damaged peoples lives (defamation of character won libel cases for large amounts of money) by defending himself when all the time he knew he was as guilty as sin. He's a git

    New York Marathon 2007.

I ran the Marathon in 2007, the same year as Lance Armstrong.

Should I contact the authorities and ask that my place at the moment (29,368), be upgraded by one (29,367), as he came in slightly ahead of me (233)? ;)

Ah, but were you tested for performance enhancing drugs? Maybe 29,369 should be upgraded

The concept of 'level playing field' in sport is flawed. Some athletes have physical advantages over other athletes, others have superior training facilities and access to permitted substances.
The question that should be asked is why do so many of us watch, study, become involved in, follow sport when it is inherantly unfair.

It saddens me that anyone could still admire him

To claim that he took drugs to get on a level playing field is self-serving rubbish. He took drugs to give himself a better chance of winning. He took drugs to gain an unfair advantage over those that didn't take them (and despite what you may think there were plenty of them). He also ensured that others around him were forced to take drugs as well. He was and still is an arrogant bully who thinks only about what is best for himself.

As to what constitutes a level playing field - that has to be up to the authorities in each sport. There are extremes on either side - from accepted doping in some activities to handicapping or financial "levelling" to ensure better competition. Participants should work within the rules governing each sport.

I was told years ago that people who cheat always get found out. Sometimes it takes longer that others - but maybe that's the best thing to come out of the Armstrong disgrace. Even he got caught up with in the end.

No it doesn't. He hasn't 'needed drugs to cycle up a mountain'. He has used drugs to cheat in a sporting competition and fraudulantly 'earn' millions of pounds
