Done all the popular Canary Islands but lanzarote is my least favourite. When you thinking of going? It’s the windiest island of them all so if your thinking of abit of winter sun you might be better trying Tenerife or Gran Canaria.

We stayed at a place called Marina Rubicon, it was a beautiful little harbour town but it was dead. Del Carmen was ok, certainly more life and atmosphere but I always found it lacking compared to the others.

Worth qualifying though that the snow was on the top of Mount Teide in Tenerife - the highest point in Spain and the third highest volcano in the world!

I can’t remember the prices at all now but I do know it can’t have been expensive then as we wouldn’t have been able to go if it was! I am the Queen of finding deals though so maybe I just dropped on. We would definitely have booked through Expedia and used Quidco for cashback.

It’s quite a bizarre place weather wise. People were in the sea & on the beach sunbathing just before Christmas yet only 20 miles away roads were closed because of heavy snow.

Been 7 or 8 times to Lanzarote - always around Christmas/ New Year. Barely had a bad day weather wise. Can be breezy but nothing to worry about. Usually a pleasant 23 degrees or upwards if that. Definitely hot enough to sun bathe.

I’ve also been to Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and find Lanzarote a bit nicer - a bit less “in your face” in terms of nightlife.

The bar in Playa Blanca that did decent live music was
Barneys - which was on the outskirts not too far from the harbour.

Off into Puerto Del Carmen later so will check out venues for live bands.

Been to all 3 main resorts in Lanzarote and probably our favourite was Costa Teguise. Problem was it was just way too windy. I think we were there at the windiest time of year in June but it was a full on gale, day and night.
Carmen in the harbour area is ok but we thought Playa Blanca was a bit too spread out as a resort. Currently in Funchal in Madeira which we like. Weather not as reliable as the Canaries at this time of year though. Been around 20 degrees and mainly sunny up until our last day today.

Was in Costa Teguise this Christmas for a few days, weather reached 28 degrees hardly a cloud, can get quite breezy and long sleeves needed at night. It's a strange mix of joggers, mountain bikers and motability scooters, loads of Britsh bars, lots of choice to eat Bollywood for a curry and there's 3 good Italian restaurants in the main square. Overriding feeling was how cheap it is to eat and drink, so go self catering or B&B and try out the Spanish square, forget the name follow the green cross. Enjoy.

Baffles me why people visit a foreign country and head for the first British/irish bar they can find.

I generally don’t. BUT if it has live music then it’s a plus. Also, if it serves real ale or Guiness, my other half prefers that to lager - and sadly alot of foreign bars don’t cater for real ale drinkers. Oh, and every other bar is an Irish bar in Lanzarote!

You're on holiday on a Spanish island off the coast of Africa. The local produce is amazing, but you'll only go into bars that serve you the same as at home? How do we get to a point where we become such creatures of habit and have so little interest in other people's and cultures? Where we go abroad and moan about 'foreign' bars. It's in many ways a uniquely British mentality and is utterly bizarre. It's no wonder the locals are becoming anti-tourist.

That's the one, the bar on the corner with the outside seating, think it's called La Morra 4.5 or something, really good not been open long but that little square is mostly Spanish and really friendly atmosphere.

Hi Mate I live in Lanzarote and have done for 10 years. I am bias but think Playa Blanca is by far the superior resort. It has everything bars, restaurants live music. There are plenty of hotels and an abundance of villas to rent. PB is very spread out but there is a frequent and reliable bus service it costs €1.40 to travel the 9kms of the resort. Forget all those who are saying it's too windy! Yes there is wind but without it the daily temperatures would be in the high 30's all year around. I work in scuba diving and in the past year we lost only 6 days due to storm force winds mainly in December. Even on those days you can get sun burnt! If you want any more info pal PM me. I could even sort your family out with a discount if you fancy a Scuba diving experience :)

In Playa Blanca there are many bars that serve local food and wine, There is even a Michelin starred restaurant plus many other fine dining eateries. Yes there are some English Breakfasts around but my Spanish friends can often be seen tucking into the full English on their days off!

Wasn't meaning to rundown Lanzarote in totality. I get that there is much more to the island than the Brits abroad culture. My response was more aimed at the comment that 'sadly a lot of foreign bars don't cater for real ale drinkers'.

Another vote here for Costa Teguise. Off there in 39 days, not that I'm counting
