Stone make lots of education and business equipment - reasonable quality I think. If only an AMD Ryzen and no graphics card though, I wonder what games it will actual play at a decent framerate. Personally I've got a M1 Mac Mini desktop - now pretty cheap, tiny, and great performance for the price. Macs always have less games choice than PCs though - depends if your kid wants lots of flashy RGB and does online competition
Thanks for everyone’s info. I ended up going for this and it arrived yesterday. A few minor scratches on the lid but everything else in great condition. The battery may need replacing and I can upgrade the ram to 16gb for a cost of around £40. The laptop cost me £166 with my wife’s blue light 10% discount so it would be just over £200 should I replace the battery and upgrade the ram. My daughter is super happy with it and so far it plays all her favoured games with the vega 8 graphics. https://www.stonerefurb.co.uk/hp-pr...eon-vega-mobile-gfx-8gb-ram-240gb-ssd-grade-c
It’s made me want to go for a refurbished MacBook now tho with the same company but I’ve never had one before. All my work stuff is on apple devices (iPhone, iPad etc.) so I’m pretty tempted to go for this as an alternative to traditional windows laptop. Is MacBook the preferred way to go now these days? https://www.stonerefurb.co.uk/apple...-ports-intel-core-i5-8257u-16gb-ram-256gb-ssd
Ive just switched - Ive always been microsoft since the early DOS Computers in the 1980's and I still work on a company Dell but for my personal I just bought a Macbook Air which is more compatable with my apple watch iphone and ipad. Different price range to the windows ones especially if you get one with an apple chip rather than and intel one - I bought a new one and it was just over a grand but so far not regretting it, hoping it will last a good few years and as mentioned above the battery life is on a different planet to Windows laptops it is taking a bit of getting used to especially as I still use windows for work but I think its going to be fine
Depends on what games you want to play, as far a I can see this pc has no graphics card, which may be a problem.
If you do buy a Mac, try to be the Apple Silicon side of the transition, not with an older intel machine. MacBook Air M1 is probably the best bang for buck, and still a great machine. Personally I saved even more and got an M1 Mac mini - I don’t really use it portably, and the battery can’t degrade if it doesn’t have one. Not sure if Apple do a blue light discount - they certainly do an education one for teachers/FE/HE/students. Their refurb store is as good as new, just a different box.
