    And thinking further back...

Rammel at home to West Ham in the cup
Gareth Williams in the last home game of the season. Bizarre.
David currie got 4 at home to Bournmouth

    In to the 80s:
    Ian chandler against sumdi
Ron Futcher against Fulham or Charlton or sumdi and then he got sent off.
Glavin against Newport County on the last day of the season but I'm sure he got at least another.
    Did Banks once get one?

That's it. That's all I can remember, but I'm sure I've missed some.

Anyone remember Gareth Williams scoring a hatrick?

Think it was aganst Southend. We played the juniors and completely arseholed them.
    Or did I dream it?

    Blast from the past.
Seem to remember Troy Bennett showing a bit of promise. Another wasted talent.

Was Banks' in the 4-2 cup victory?

One of them being a pen? Or am I proving myself to be a pleb? That was when Ronnie's hat was first mentioned wasn't it?

    It was a league game

In their previous home game , Rotherham had beaten Chelsea 6-0 ! We played Rotherham in the FA Cup 2nd Round the previous season , at Millmoor , and won 1-0 with a Derrick Parker goal . THAT was where the witty ditty about Ronnie's hat was firsy sung .

One of Mad Mel's infamous six summer signings

Along with John Pearson, Charlie Bishop, Deniol Graham, Steve (I think I'll be injured for 4 years but then come good) Davis and sumdi else I can't think of, possibly Lee Butler. Kwalertee!

Gareth Williams from the Isle of Wight I think. Don't know if he was born on the Island, but definitely brought up there.

I used to love us playing Rotherham

They were our biggest rivals for a time. Both on the up, Ronnie's hat, cup victories over them, promoted together and that unforgettable 1-0 victory over them that secured us promotion in front of 25,000. Games against Rotherham taught me how to swear properly. A lesson I have never forgotten.

I was about to post something along the same lines.
Why buy two quality players when we can buy six mediocre players?
Was Rammell one of the six?
Didn't we get a centre half from Arsenal at some point?

    centre half from Arsenal

Colin Hoyle. Kwalertee to the power of 10. Along with Dino Connelly. My all time favourite player. Oh aye.

I don't think Rammel came with that lot. The season had started when we got him. He came off the subs bench at Blackburn and scored with his first ever touch for us.

    After the 4-2 win

I was making my way out of the ground , with my brother in law , when an old guy looked me in the eye and told me he was going to "punch my head off my f**king shoulders , because he hated everyone from Barnsley" . I then pointed out I was stood three steps below him on the terracing , but to give me a second and I'd give him the opportunity . He then mumbled something about Glavin being our best player and made his exit!!

Thats the bloke! Was doing my head in trying to remember his name.
Rammell will always retain legendary status in my book. Even though he was the weakest 'target man' in history.
