I remember my dad going mental over the 7-1 Workington away game when I was a kid. Mid-week game I think.
Yep, and I wore the 78/79 shirt today and went in through turnstile 6 for good luck. I would, however, have been quite (albeit unfairly) devastated had it finished 6-0. I was living in London and didn’t want to take a day off to come up to the Huddersfield game, so I gave a mate my season ticket and watched the game in the pub close to my office, off Marylebone High Street, with another London based Reds fan. We were celebrating the goals, obviously, but at half-time we were probably the only Reds fans wanting us not to score another, selfishly, cos we weren’t there. So I have been waiting since my first game in 1977 to see us score 7. I was at Anfield to see Liverpool score 9 past Crystal Palace, I’ve seen Sheffield Wednesday score 7 past QPR, I saw the reserves knock 9 past Nigel Adkins, in goal for Wigan reserves, and I’ve see us concede 7 more times than I care to remember. The Morecambe game last season really annoyed me, as we pulled out foot off the gas and made several substitutions when we could easily had scored 7 [seven] (one for the oldies there!). So with half an hour to go, plus the inevitable 10 minutes injury time, I felt pretty confident at 6-0. But the longer the same went on, the less likely that 7th goal looked. So it was with as much relief as pleasure seeing Andy Dallas’ flying header go in. “It’s Just Like Watching Brazil’ on the opening weekend. Magic!
I watched it in a pub on the Holloway Toad before a night shift. Lots v of gooners around take the pee. Darren Barnard soon shut them up with his golden left wand..
Apologies if it came over as weird. Was actually trying to say that I've never seen us win 7 0 on an opening day after many years of watching.
