With the right partners in a system that suits him he’d be good

I’ve disagreed with many posts over the years, but never more so than this one.

I won’t knock him for effort, but he is absolutely woeful as a centre back.

I don't think so. He's a lovely bloke, he tries his best, I like him, he's actually good when we've got a corner so he's not without skill, but I will confidently predict that if he stays in England to pursue his football career it will soon be for a non-league club. He just hasn't got it.

That isn't even a criticism. We all wanted to be footballers. He got way further than the rest of us.

Maybe he shouldn’t have played today? He was said to be really unwell last week and I was surprised to see him start.

There is a mistake in everyone of our centre half's. Pines and Earl were shocking today giving the ball away many times when not under pressure. Only a few of our players look like they could be part of a top six side DKD, Nwakali and Farrugia. Then we have Connell overrated by many because of one good season which finished with him missing that sitter at Wembley. Philips who can vanish for several games. Russell to be fair has been far better this season, O keeffe runs his socks off but can be caught out at the back. The recruitment team are well below the standard we need. Clarke has a hopeless task but we are trying to play football at the back with players who can't and that's Clarkes' fault by encouraging it. The majority of our players don't have a football brain, constantly making the wrong decisions when they have the ball. There are teams in this league with smaller budgets than ours who have far better success in recruitment and development of players. Good luck when they put the Season tickets out, many people will not be renewing. Roll on closed season.

McCart, Lopata and Williams, or anyone else we had first half of last season for a start.

My opinion isn't just on today, I think he's talented but lazy. Hasn't scored since Cambridge? And your either well enough to play or not.

I’d honestly just let him lose up front, he’s fast awkward and a threat in the air. He’s proven he can score.
I think he would be more of a handful than some of the others we try up there

He his a disaster at the back and a disaster waiting to happen if played up front ha, he’s ok going up for corners/set pieces. You are out of your tree mate if you think he’s a centre forward, never in a million years.

Hate to be that guy but I find it really hard to say anything negative about Pines, because he seems a really good lad. I can’t say anything negative about a player who I think is giving 100%, unfortunately he’s just not at the standard we need.

Other players in this side who are good enough but are not showing up or giving it their all are the ones who should be pelted for me.

There was a period where our recruitment and development of centre backs was great, probably amongst the best in the football league. We'd tend to have one more senior than the other, and when the senior one had developed to the point of being sold the junior one would step up, and a new junior partner would be brought in. It worked across several seasons - Mawson, Roberts, Lindsay, Pinnock, Andersen, Kitching. There were a few duds along the way but on the whole it worked very well.

    I've no idea what happened.

I can’t understand what’s happening to him. He’s getting worse week in, week out.

It might sound daft but I wonder if he’s had a bad concussion or something. He seems scared to go & head the ball first time. He’s letting everything bounce. It’s weird to watch.

He wasn’t like it when he first joined or even early this season.

I expected him to kick on & improve the longer he had with us & had time to adapt to English football but it’s obviously not happening.
