I've been looking through Fridays Chronicle again particularly at Hecky's statement regarding the takeover. The headline written by Doug O'Kane reads Hecky says Cryne " will only sell to the right person." It goes on to say that the Chronicle understands that the consortium members wanting to take over the Club were given a tour in May and that talks remain ongoing but there is no final deal in place.! Current owner Patrick Cryne is likely to retain a small percentage of his hometown Club as part of the deal whilst the Consortium would apparently provide more funds than currently available for transfers. Hecky commented " If and when it does happen, Patrick will make sure the Club goes to the right person. He's said that all along. He's shown how much he cares about the Club by putting his own money in, so he's not going to throw all that away. He will definitely make sure he sells it to the right person." The article continued by saying that Cryne-who rescued the Club from folding more than a decade ago-has been open to selling it for some time and there have been at least two other groups in negotiations in recent years. Heckingbottom said " It's like when one of our transfer targets is revealed in the press, I start to get asked about it. But there are lots of others that are going on that may or may not happen. It is the same as this ( the proposed takeover), I have heard about a lot of others that have not happened." In the match report in the Sunday People it discussed the big job that Simon Grayson has on his hands following Sunderlands 3-0 defeat to Barnsley. Regarding us , it said " Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has his own challenges, with the sale of £23 million-worth of players in the last three years leaving him reliant on youth and loans. Hecky once at Sunderland as a player, hopes a proposed takeover by a Chinese group happens soon, to ease their money worries.! Can we interpret from the Chronicle article that the deal is close and Hecky thinks Messrs Lee and Conway fit Patrick Cryne's criteria as being the right kind of people. ? As one guy commented on footy.mad, has Mr Cryne's part already been concluded.? If it has, could that explain why he was in the East Stand Exec area and not the Directors Box at the game. Is the deal now that close to being signed off.? Interesting times indeed. The only bit in the two pieces I think lacks credibility is Lindsay Sutton's claim in the People that the Club has money " worries". I don't personally believe that to be the case, in fact our financial stability and the figure that Mr Cryne is probably looking to sell the Club for , are the features that have probably attracted Messrs Lee and Conway and their Associates to buy Barnsley FC in the first place.
