You’re probably thinking of Simoes. Odour has never properly cemented a place here, he’s just not good enough, in every position tried.
Nope. When he initially broke into the first team, Autumn 2019, he played extremely well as a left wingback. He received numerous plaudits on here for his performances.
To be honest, I didn't see much of that season before lockdown and everything going onto ifollow. But do remember seeing praise for him on here. He clearly has talent. It's just a shame that his finishing lets him down so badly, otherwise he'd have one or two goal of the season contenders with the chances he's created for himself with his skill and ability to beat a player. If we're playing 4-2-3-1 in league 1 next season, I wouldn't be against seeing him on the left of the 3.
I understand why you’d give him a chance in L1 but we’re advocating a few lightweight players for a front 3. From what I remember of L1 it’s a physically tough league and Marsh, Aitchison and Oduor are all on the small side. We won’t pass our way up with a lightweight forward line.
I don't think any of us can have an idea of just what sort of squad we're going to have next season. I don't think we've got the finances to pay off players who have a whole season left on their contracts, unless they can get similar elsewhere to lessen our payoff. I'm not sure there will be too many takers for the Schmidt and Thomas. So I suspect we've the dilemma of trying to find someone to take them on loan, or, we actually include them in our squad and look to play them. It's then a case of what bids come in for the rest of our squad. We've sat out 2 seasons of not selling our better players. The financial accounts show we should have sold some, even at lesser fees. We can't afford to not sell some this summer, whichever division we are in.
Both Oduor and Simoes we're 'Strubered'. As was Bahre I think. He often made a sub around half an hour for some bizarre reason.
Though there is the possibility that any relegation clauses on their salaries (if they exist), may make it more feasible to move them on, at least in January, if not the summer.
It's a good point. That's why it's important that the coaching staff and recruitment team are established and in agreement on what is needed, which can then lead to a transfer window that at least makes sense, even if signings ultimately don't work out. We can't have another summer of Conway logic dictating recruitment like in 2019 and last summer.
I was shocked to see MacDonald on so much and that it ratcheted up each season. I'd be interested to see if thats common in our contracts. So we may well get some reduction in some contracts, but that could well be softened by a MacDonald type ratchet. We've also the issue of the calibre of the players. The leagues they may have a chance at trying to make a living are likely going to struggle to pay something similar to what we've paid them. You're then hoping they want to play some football rather than sit on the sidelines for 12 months.
