We have everything to play for. & I mean EVERYTHING. If we slack off now, we’ll get nowhere. & I mean NOWHERE.!! & that’s SHOUTING.!!
I have to say I was conflicted re Stendel that day, it felt like everyone had already celebrated going up and that was enough. Ended up as a bit of a damp squib.
I’m not disputing they’d been out on the lash (they had!) I am just sure we could have won the title that day but the mind plays tricks …..I think there maybe had to be a 3 goal swing or something
We definitely could win the title. I was at the beam back at Oakwell and remember being a bit deflated when Luton scored. I think we had to win and them not, can’t remember if goal difference came into play though.
Goal difference came into it - from what I recall we needed something like a 5 goal swing - don't quote me on that ! If we had gone for it and got a decent lead by halftime to put pressure on Luton who knows what could have happened ! But instead DS got them all down to the Garrison to celebrate on Tuesday when Sunderland lost - very unprofessional of him. Plenty of time to celebrate after the last match.
Luton finished on 94 we finished on 91. Luton beat Oxford on the last day we lost to Bristol so before we played those games Luton were level on points with us with a better goal difference. It was irrelevant in the end but we just needed to better lutons result to win the title. Was still to play for in regards the title but the job stendel set out to do was done promotion.
We both had 91 points after 45 games. Luton’s goal difference was +46 and ours was +42. It wasn’t impossible, however, with promotion already confirmed and then going down to 10 men, it just wasn’t going to happen.
