Absolutely spot on. I think the sacking of Wilson specifically, a very well respected football man, will be a major hurdle in getting a decent replacement.
Really? He was sacked after a bad run that lasted about 6 weeks, managers since him (Hill and, dare I say it, Wilson) had bad runs that lasted 12 months.
In the interview the prospective manager could say 'I'm a bit nervous about committing to the job based on the sacking of Wilson, as I didn't feel it was truly justified'. The panel could then reel off all the the mistakes Wilson made during his tenure to justify, and the applicant would probably think 'fair enough'. Our treatment of him really wasn't that bad.
Probably not true. He'll likely be still being paid by Reading and he'll forfeit the rest of his compo if he takes another job. I never understand a manager rushing in to a next job. They're often one failure from being unemployable.
Adkins would be great as would Rosler. I guess to an extent it depends on the terms of their severance from their respective former clubs and whether they would take the gamble of managing us given that they are both, perhaps, at crossroads in their careers. Another career mistake could see either on the scrap heap of formerly promising managers whereas another success could propel them along the career paths they probably have mapped out for themselves. In some ways we are a decent bet in this league. For a successful team you have potential gates of 10,000-12,000 and an owner prepared to back his club. Against that we are perceived as short term and constantly sacking managers. A difficult choice for a prospective managers with experience of success. A gamble much more likely to appeal to Johnson or Davis in my opinion.
I guess that is because there are only 92 jobs to go round. Even adding the conference and Scotland there are only around 150 jobs. If you want to be a manager you cant afford to limit your selection too much further. Its not like getting a job in a call centre where you can walk out and get another.
Fair point. And I suppose they have faith in their ability and will be sold a club by the board. And wait to long and you become yesterday's man (Curbishley for example).
"a supposedly ambitous league one club" well that rules us out then. There are teams in the local pub leagues with more ambition than our lot.
