I'd have Stendel back. Knows this division and knows how to get his squad fit and eager. Before anyone pipes up about Hearts, he was unfairly treated there where the fans loved him. Got rid of the old dead wood who were ruling the dressing room. Almost kept them up but did all the groundwork to see them promoted the year after and comfortably in the top half. Had the rug pulled under him at Oakwell by Conway.
Totally agree - we are in no position to rule out a potential candidate of his quality, whatever the mantra of "don't go back". Sort of worked for Luton.
It is right what you say as it went reasonably well but towards the end it went sour , we were 4th or 5th from bottom when they sacked him & then I believe he went to Lincoln which did not go well & he was not there very long , interestingly if you have a look back at the eighties in general , there was a big lull in the game & crowds in the old first division & the second division were all very low compared to the crowds since the birth of the premier league , sky football etc
I think Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards, had spells with England youth teams at St George's, before getting jobs as first team coaches. I do think it may be an option, a young qualified coach, working with our existing coaching team and recruitment and analysis teams. Of course, I know nothing about football, so probably talking nonsense as usual.
Top post. I watched loads of games doing that period home and away and Clarke did a miracle in his second spell given the situation. When he arrived I remember the chairman saying he'd got to improve playing standards and sell some players to get cash in. Amazingly he did both.
This apparent clamour for Stendel to come back is odd. Yes we played some brilliant stuff in league 1 and it was a joy to watch. One of the most fun periods of my 30 years watching The Reds. Pressing, passing and moving was a joy to behold. Let’s also not forget we had Moore, Pinnock and Mowatt in our teams spine who are MILES better than what we’ve got now. But then we went up. Now I get the board completely sold him short in terms of wanting experience but the way he gave up, played players out of position and threw games away with complete tactical naivety against better teams was not fun. Anyone remember Preston away? Absolutely shocking. Add in ‘the Huddersfield stuff’ and I think we should be heading in a different direction.
I'm not familiar with the other place, but how do they stack up against Tarn when it comes to Kebabs?
We took a punt on Pinnock. Moore was seen as a journeyman. Mowatt had been sent on loan to Oxford. All became better players.
