At this moment in time, we surely an't got a chance of the Play offs or even top 10. But, a good appointment or two here and there, and who knows what that might do for us.
You know what happens Dreamer, when people make stupid suggestions like that.. you know what happens.. YOU JUST MADE THE LIST !!.
Like i said the other day and i have been told since they arent very good. We have only offered palmer and vic new deals wouldnt be suprised if they werent signed. I do expect players to leave we have more deadwood than ive ever seen oulare,Schmidt,Thomas, iseka, odour the ex liverpool player who has been out on loan cant remember his name. Then i imagine styles, helik, anderson, collins, woodrow, morris will all be aiming for a move. I think we need a head coach in to asses the squad try shift some deadwood on and the rest will obviously go. Hopefully we get duff in.
We are in a mess and it's going to take time to sort out. We'll likely lose our better players, but one or two might stay. Some of the ones written off might come good, they might not. We're just at the start of a very big transition. First and foremost, we have to be solvent. But with so much flux, again, I'd take mid table next season. But footballs so bizarre that anything could yet happen with so many variables at play. And reading between the lines we've offered new deals to Adeboyejo, Palmer, Hondermarck, Sraha, Thompson, Ariely and I think Ackroyd too. And obviously we got Wolfe, Bremang, Winfield and Helliwell. That's 11 we've offered new terms to who were out of contract in the summer. Granted a lot of those are young and shouldn't be commanding huge wages. But it would suggest it sends out a signal that we're going to have a lot of extremely inexperienced players in and around the first team next year.
We should be able to command decent fees for collins helik styles anderson morris. Not sure about woodrow his scoring record isnt much diffrent to victors last season think hes scored a goal more and played a few more games also we owe 50% of whatever we sell him for to fulham. Be interesting to see kane back and aitchinson who has been ever present in forest greens pronotion team. But i cant see us challenging this season be more of a rebuild.
Much is going to depend on contracts and whether the market bounces back. Our typical sales have gone to championship clubs, and that group is increasingly indebted. I'm not sure we can expect record busting figures, especially given the season we've just had. Granted you might get a nibble north of the border and I suspect Helik has options abroad too. But I think we need to be clearing around £6-£8m in transfer fees out plus wage savings. More, if we feel we want to sign players for fees coming in. With Woodrow, I still believe if you structure your team to play to his strengths, stop him dropping so deep, he'll get you 15-20 goals in a season (if your team has any creativity in it!) but the issue for us will be his wages. He's going to be our highest earner given he signed a contract extension the other season. Getting wages off the books is just as important as getting fees in. If he's on anything near £10k a week (based on championship wages before any contractual reduction), you're saving £500k a year.
I agree with getting wages off the books and i think he is the biggest earner at the club from what ive heard. Obviously clauses will be activated upon relegation that will see a drop in this but i cant see us getting a big fee for him based on past 2 seasons form. Also players like oulare rumored to be on 7k a week need shifting but who would want them? The last summer window under conway set the club back years now its rebuild time. And people keep mentioning experience any experience player worth having not getting injured consistently will demand decent wages probably out of our budget.
There are plenty of clubs who manage to put together a team on a fraction of our wage cost that do ok in league 2 and league 1, so I'm not all doom and gloom. We just have little scope to make bad decisions give the many we've previously taken. And we're working off a huge loss. Some players we're stuck with til we can let their contracts lapse, that's just the way it is given the circumstances we find ourselves.
If we can't off load them they should be here earning their keep. I can't wait to see Kane, Aitchison, Thomas and Schmidt next season. I don't think we need mega signings. Just pay the fringe players to play football.
Thing is though, the better players amongst Rooney's squad are simply waiting for the takeover to be completed and Rooney's future to be confirmed before re-signing. And let's not forget that those players effectively achieved 55 points in the Championship in a troubled season. With the shedding of any other dead wood amongst the squad and a modest investment by Mr Kirchner they will be very well-placed to bounce back under Wazza's guidance. I make them favourites - subject to the takeover being fully completed, but contracts have been exchanged. 9/1 for the Title and 3/1 for promotion seem very reasonable prices to me.
I hope the club have a plan now. We seem to be half pregnant between the question of ‘do we rebuild’ or ‘do we run with tweaks to our current squad’. No evidence yet on what we plan and actions to execute. if we compare the squads, management etc of last seasons L1 promoted clubs and even the other top 3 we seem way off right now.
