Apart from an annoying mis-use of 'whom', he makes a very honest and interesting statement. Someone who has chosen to live their life openly and decided football wasn't an environment that would accept that. And he's right, it won't - are you kidding, we can't crack racism, what chance does it have with homosexuality?

It's a shame for the lad, as ironically it will rid him of the stress and make him more of a man and probably a better footballer. Anyway what do I know? They're not my boots. Plus I read the Guardian, I think they should all be gay.

Cant crack racism? Really? Because a film crew went looking for racism and after filming secretly for months and months they only found a handful of people being racist.

And also he doesn't say that he's decided football isn't an environment that would accept it has he? I read it more that he used football as an escape and a way to hide his homosexuality but since he's quit football he's lost that and so has come out.

No we can't. I don't know what this film crew is you mention. I know just by watching and it's as bad now as it's been anytime in the last 20 years.

Sky went looking for it and found, I think 3 people. And if football is racist then Oakwell must be special because I've heard VERY few instances of racism at Oakwell

So you've heard instances of racism then. So its not been cracked has it? Last season alone two premiership footballers were found guilty of racism

I'm actually prejudice against Sky so I can't really comment. I would make them wear a blue S on their sleeves and sit at the back of the bus.

I didn't mention BFC, I meant football as a sport. But I have heard and still hear it at Oakwell, there are parts of the ground I won't go. It's not as bad as it was when I first started going but it's still there. I've come close to blows with a fellow supporter over it. I've sat in the middle of 200 Barnsley fans singing Paki at Notts County. Do you really want me to go on?

    What a strange analogy

Is this going to descend into another game of guess which random bizarre position Supertyke is going to take on the moral issue of the day?

There is also the small point that one of them was the captain of England.

There were 56 separate incidents of racial abuse by five white men, with Leeds striker El-Hadji Diouf the subject of most of the chants by a small section of Millwall supporters. FIFA president Sepp Blatter was shown the footage and later called for clubs to be relegated if players were found to be racially abused.

I don't think it's particularly strange. There are a handful of footballers/former footballers currently in prison for murder, there are also a few football 'fans' convicted of murder after football hooliganism. If you are using a handful of racist incidents from players and fans as proof that football has a problem with racism then you surely have to also concede that it must have a problem with murder because there are a handful of players and fans who have murdered.

Of course in reality football has no big issue with murder, just like it doesn't with racism. A handful of racist people doesn't make an entire sport racist. I've worked with people who are racist before, it didn't make the entire company or industry racist, it just meant that a few people in the world are idiots.

Must of missed where the premiership footballer murdered another premiership footballer during the course of a game.

Of course racism extends beyond footballer, but my personal experiences of racism have largely been limited to playing and watching football.

If someone who worked st my place was found guilty of racism they would be out of a job and banned from the place of work.

Me too. As I don't attend EDL/BNP/NF rallies, it's pretty much just tw@ts in pubs and football.
