This is my thinking. Football is a results based business, and I can't see a club that's still well placed in the league taking a season defining gamble on someone with heckys current record, because he was doing better a year ago. Their fans won't like it, and will jump on him at the first opportunity.
There is some truth in what you say. Only leaving us will show if he's any good or not. It's really hard to tell at the moment because of his circumstances, but I can't see those improving any time soon.
I fully support Hecky, but his CV currently needs a bit of work on it - we know why we have won so few games (team broken apart, cut price recruitment), but Leeds' fans are just going to look at the stats and for 12 months they have not been good. He will not be given time at Elland Road.
When he was younger Hecky voiced his dislike of anything to do with Leeds United. I doubt very much that growing up in Barnsley and as a Barnsley player and fan, that those feelings have abated.
When I say hecky out its not because I wanted the guy to fail of course I'd love him to turn this run of form around but I just can't see it happening. Even the people who are backing hecky on here say he hasn't been the same since Tommy Wright left. If he gets the Leeds job I honestly believe he won't be a success. I've seen people get slated for saying negative things towards hecky it's beyond a joke. We all want our team to be successful. But to be honest 2 wins in 23 when you manage any team with any budget is absolutely dreadful.
Odds don't really have to do with actual chances though. They have to to with how much people are betting on the various possibilities. If more people bet on Hecky, the odds go up (and the reward goes down). So a few initial bets can make these odds fluctuate quite a lot, regardless of actual odds of there being much truth in it.
The big problem we've got, as I see it is growth as a club. We might improve revenue streams under the new regime, and give our manager a bit more to work with, but will our turnover grow at the same rate as other clubs debt, because that's basically what we're talking about. Success is largely debt fuelled. Yes, we can be proud to be doing everything under our own steam and not be a hobby club, but that will continue to give any manager a tough job. In an ideal world, our fans would seize the opportunity to get down to Oakwell and make a real statement of support to new owners, and they in turn would reciprocate by speculating a little to make more of a bang than a wet fart, but we all know that's not going to happen. In the meantime, the managers up against it and can't prove himself one way or the other.
If anyone wants a good reason to dismiss this with a pinch of salt this is it... Ian "The Moose" Abrahams at work! Constantly ridiculed by every Talksport presenter under the sun!
Sky reporting Hecky is main choice, Leeds are willing to meet compensation clause and hope to get deal done tonight.
