What near multicultural area ? Yep ... worked in one for 30 years as well. School near me majority are children from overseas- mainly Muslim. Again where was the outrage from people at the disturbances in Kirkby - police vans set on fire. Very quiet then ...
The 'I predict a riot' riot from 20 years ago was in Harehills and almost identical. A single incident inflamed tensions to boiling point in a very underprivileged community. Ignoring the individual incident and the idiots, it emphasises that we need to invest both time and money into improving these communities. Hope everyone is ok. Seems to suggest noone injured on the buses but not clear on casualties in general
This was 2-tier policing in all its glory. If it was Barnsley fans being herded through Harehills en route to a Leeds match (yeah, I know ...) imagine the response if even a couple of us would have broken rank? A sad night for WYP and a very dangerous precedent. There'll be a lot of single brain cell folk tonight who will try emulate last night's mob, knowing that .......... they just can.
Just recently a stop oil protester got 5 years for peacefully protesting. Ok he and others caused motorway grid lock but peaceful all the same. Will anyone convicted of rioting offences here get anything like 5 years? I think not.
Yvette Cooper sounds like she's ready to lock some of them in basements with a bloke and some pliers. I don't think they'll be lenient. Question is whether they can identify and convict.
I know what you mean but similar happened in Halton Moor last summer when a police car ended up burned out.
The fact it was instigated by Romanian migrants won’t stop the ‘get them mucky Muslims out’ rhetoric from Nigel and tommys army… Despite the fact there’s videos of Muslim men, including a local councillor, physically stopping any more vandalism and shouting at people about what they were doing to their own community. Terrible criminality, all involved should be locked up - but this will fuel already loud enough dissenting voices; and the fact they won’t actually even be accurate in their assertion won’t matter a jot.
Arrests already made, more expected. Would be nice if someone else is arrested for inciting racial hatred when he eventually returns here after his American holiday.
Muslim councillors and community leaders literally shielding police from missiles thrown by white men from eastern Europe. Sadly the dog whistle isn't about facts. If he sees disturbance in an area with a Muslim population he makes his statement and the racists and ill informed lap it up. Be interesting to see if the local MP or Yvette Cooper address him directly the next time he bothers to turn up to parliament. I believe there are strict regulations around MPs commenting on incidents they have not been briefed on. And being that he's in the US on his knees it seems unlikely he's been briefed.
To be fair the videos I seen look like Asian men and kids setting the bus alight and one of a Asian smashing a police car with what looks like a kids scooter.
To be fair someone being dark skinned and doing something illegal does not equal subcontinent politics. A d*ckhead is a d*ckhead. Why are you defending blaming a huge and diverse area of the world for a few individuals committing crimes?
When there were the riots in Bradford a few years back they dealt out long sentences - 10 years plus. Seems like there’s a lot of people easily identified here, some people gonna get a knock on the door…if it’s classified as a riot they’re going down for a long time.
I didn't I said further down similar happened in Halton Moor last year with white kids burning a police car. Not to the extent of last night though. But I saw with my own eyes on those videos Asian adults and kids causing the damage. I'm not sure when policing went so soft? What happened to water cannons and plastic bullets.
You were replying to a comment pointing out it began with Eastern Europeans and expressing concern about the Farage/Yaxley rhetoric - by saying there were Asians on film taking part. Which was never denied. Whether you meant it or not. It came across as though you were defending their right to make such inflammatory statements.
Nothing political about it idiots breed idiots weather black white brown whatever. No excuse really for people setting busses on fire and young kids throwing rocks while there parents stand at side of them. Like I said previously countries ******.
A lot of Leeds is an absolute **** hole that makes me so pleased to live in Barnsley. Same with quite a few areas of Sheffield. When I worked in Leeds city centre and they used to take the piss out of Barnsley on the lines that we had just discovered fire, it wasn't hard to turn that around. Just a drive through many areas of Leeds, Bradford and Dewsbury and you do honestly think how nice a place Barnsley is. Many of their terraced houses with big metal gates across their external doors, along with some even having bars on the downstairs windows. I used to tell em we moved on in Barnsley from medieval times when places needed a portcullis to keep folk out. Having said that there are certainly areas on the decline in Barnsley now because of the way some people who have moved into the area (or been placed there) and simply for whatever reason decide not to integrate into the existing community. Nothing like to the extent of harehills or Paige hall though where exactly that has been emphasized on mass. I think the streets just behind Morrisons in town are a good example of this but as above, nothing out of hand just far more acceptance to rubbish being chucked out onto the streets which starts tensions along with an influx of drugs which is a different country wide issue. I honestly think within the next decade, somewhere in the UK we will see groups of people walking down the street in the name of protest waving machine guns in the air. Something you see regular in some countries where Instability is the norm. Really hope not but can see it happening.
Having lived in all three of Barnsley, Sheffield and Leeds, I can categorically say that there are areas in Sheffield and Leeds which aren't comparable to anywhere in Barnsley, at both ends of the spectrum.
