Filey is great too, I should have put them on my list. Absolute pain for parking though. They gain points for the lack of seagulls.

Hey Dreamy, the memories for me go back to us having a caravan in each town, going back to the late 70's. :)
I love the 'Wezzies' thing they've always called us, and I/we tell them that us West Yorkshire people made them what they are now lol.

Hunmanby Gap at the top. All day every day.

On the original topic Leeds like any city has good and bad bits. Lived in Armley (not great not horrendous) and briefly Burley Park (hated it, grim rented house backed onto station platform, generally grotty) and luckily settled in Horsforth about 25 years ago. Even though this is a nice part of town there was a tragic school stabbing of a 15 year old last year who died as a result (memorial bench about 300 yds from our house) so scrotes get everywhere in large cities. Harehills generally always been on another scale though - got a mate with a son in WYP whose patch is south Leeds (belle isle, Middleton, beeston) which although rough aren't a patch on Harehills - always worries if he gets called over there as he did on Weds. Think that was where Malik Wilkes got involved in bother after his brother was stabbed to death if memory serves. Only about 5 miles from here as the crow flies but feels a million miles away. It's not necessarily a multi cultural thing either - the grim parts of south Leeds are primarily white. Just city life in the UK these days I guess......

If we ask you to stop with your neofascist drivel “really nice” will you?

Your command of the English language is pretty woeful for someone so keen to further the “English” cause as well.

Lived in a self contained rental down near the Faversham many moons ago. Usually a great place to live, nice vibe and decent walking distance to town. Used to sometimes get the train to Burley Park and walk up from there. Different neighbourhood entirely, but no better or worse, just different. Always remember that the Indian restaurant opposite the University/ Firkin pub used to sell tinnies after hours if they knew you. This was before the alcohol restrictions were relaxed….great days.

I hope you are correct. I can just see it coming unless the country changes course, that needs to start with investment. Yes we have strict gun laws but it's the next step from the large scale knife crime we hear about.

Hopefully the new government can be true to their word and turn the tide.

I think one of the worst decisions in policing was the mass closure of local police stations in favour of the cheaper centralised model, which just meant less coverage really. There was always something quite reassuring about knowing the local bobbies who were part of the community. Maybe the tip of the iceberg but it would be nice to see a return to that style of policing. Or is that me being too nostalgic?

Unfortunately paper work has taken over - you arrest someone and you’ve got hours of paperwork to do. Between that and the inefficient custody process- police stood around for hours waiting for the sergeant to get off his fat behind and process their arrest, means there’s not much time for proactive policing anymore, also the Tories reduced the number of police by 10k during their time in office. So there’s that.

Yes all contributing factors for sure.

Plus we now live an a world where a local copper would get dragged over the hot coals and be forced into hiding if he gave a local kid a clip round the lughole if they were up to no good.

My Dad was 23 when I arrived, yet he looked about 16, and when my Mum's waters broke she sent my Dad to the Red Phone box at the end of the street to ring the midwife, the local bobby asked him what he was doing out in the snow at 2am, gave him a clip and sent him on his way.

    I requested a nativity scene. :)

Told this story before, but 6 months later, my mum sent my dad and me to the local shops to get some food in, so that my Dad could get back home in time for the WC final. The trip included the butchers near the aforementioned phone box. I was left in my pram outside. When my Grandma turned up to look after me, half an hour before kick off, she asked my Dad "where's our Andrew?" ........ I was still outside the butchers, fast asleep.
