Heinz Muller had a presence. An excellent goalkeeper. I just wish we'd have had a better team in front of him.

His favourite game growing up was noughts and noughts. Which helped, regards clean sheets.

Futcher (Paul) definitely in list 1 for me. Best centre back we've ever had, including Mick McCarthy.

As someone that started watching in the early 90s, O'Connell was one of a batch of players that formed a core of what I would consider 'my team', at a time when transfers in or out of Oakwell was much more of a rarity than these days. O'Connell, Fleming, Archdeacon, Rammell, Bishop, with Redfearn joining a year or two later, formed a group that would play together for a fairly long time, in the team that introduced me to the club. Ironically, that group, bar Redfearn, all left for one reason or another, just before our best ever season.

Winstanley was the one constant during that time. Was caretaker manager at various intervals, and Wilson's and Bassett's assistant. I think it was Spackman that let him go, and for various reasons, it never really felt like the same club again after that.

Nail on head. If Barry's not in there we need to revisit our definition of legend.

Same here. I thought we lost something after the Play-Off Final defeat. The swagger had gone after that. I know it was hard losing Eaden, Hignett and Curtis (loan) but we didn't play the same brand of football in 2000/1.

I liken it to last season. We were up there and finished 5th but Watford, Norwich, Brentford and Bournemouth played more attractive stuff. I think for a period between 1995 and 2000 the football was a joy to watch and was winning football.

We've looked good in League 1 during 2005/6, 2015/16 and 2018/19 but at Championship level something has been missing since 2000.

Delighted that Johnny Kelly has come up in this thread BigLil. He was my Mum's favourite player and she always said the best she'd seen at Oakwell. She would have been 95 today so him coming up is nice.
My Dad also talked about Cec McCormack and also George Robledo. And then later after I started going I think Winny and Glavin were the two who would've stood out for him.

My list would be the same as the OP but with Murphy added and Hourihane instead on list 2. I'd also add Hassell, Hammill, Mick Butler, Allan Clarke, Norman Hunter, Danny Wilson and Hecky to list 2.

I would think the 1912 cup winning team and manager should be classed as legends. The only team in our history to win the FA Cup.

Agree about better than Mick, he was the man for me as a kid, just think he falls just short of legend though IMO

Watson worse with crosses than Steele? Gi' o'er...

Back to real legends. Joe Joyce and Phil Chambers, both would run their blood to water for BFC. Both had comedy taches and both meet my criteria of 250 plus games which I've now downgraded to 200 to include Glav...

Just gonna leave this here so you can cut and paste him into the legends list.

I preferred Steele of the two. I think Watson was in a much better team but wasn’t the better keeper. It’s an opinions game!

Steele was a brilliant shot stopper, but if a decent cross came in I used to shut my eyes...as did Steele. :)

Walking behind a guy and two toddlers today near the ground.

Guy says: "I haven't been in West Stand since Ronnie Glavin were playing"

    Toddler 1: "Who Grandad"

tsk tsk. Kids today, don't know they're born lol :)
