RE: And Scargill Again - in Grimethorpe NACODS members didn't cross the picket lines. But as my dad said at the time - they don't allow anyone in at all and they'll not have a pit to return to. Had the NUM had a national ballot then the strike amongst the NUM members would have been far more solid.
I didn't lose 25 years of prosperity since then. Until Labour fecked it up again. The people I know worth their salt got off their backsides and got other jobs. Even the bloke from Brampton in the article when he wasn't throwing on the sick from Cortonwood moved on to leaning on a shovel for Rotherham Council. Most miners got massive redundancies. Thousands of young Barnsley lads won't be getting emphasema (however it's spelled) or vibration white finger. We've burned every other countries coal and kept our own stuff safe in the ground for when the rest of it runs out. Seriously whichever way you want to look at it - after 25 years it's time to move on. And start talking to your son again before you die even if he was a scab. The snowman picture is fecking hilarious though.....
RE: I didn't loseThousands of young Barnsley lads won't be getting emphasema (however it's spelled) No, just minimum wage at Ventura.

Not suggesting that NOBODY wants coal, just that not enough do And you are right, the fact that it is all imported is a scandal. But that applies to virtually every other product that we can buy and sell in this country now. Imports, whether inferior or cheaper (usually both), are what we have to live with. Maybe King Coal will have it's day once more, some time in the future, but I can't really see it. How do you get half a ton of nutty slack up several floors in an apartment building? And if you can do it, where do you keep it? In the bath I suppose
I agree Labour haven't done much for the area since they got in. But you can always actually go to school and listen to the teachers and get some qualifications and that. Ventura is a choice. You have an alternative. I believe Dirk you chose an alternative. And as I understand it Windy hasn't done so bad either. Like someone else said - How long will it be until the people of Barnsley stop using the absence of pits as an excuse for not having a decent job. Time to move on.
RE: I agree Labour haven't done much for the area since they got in. As I've said earlier, the natural transition of an area when it loses its main industry can be managed and planned - the wilful obliteration of an entire industry and with it the culture and nature of the area leaves a vacuum - one which has still not been filled.

RE: Winter of discontent! I liked the one in 1990, the discontent in the Tory party, when Geoffrey Howe resigned as deputy PM and brought about the bitches downfall. They couldn`t wait to get shut of her Hesser and his mob.
RE: I'll have a party when it happens to Scargill and Major Peter Parkes nt yes, and I bet you'll be eating Sausage Chips And Beans.
When you get your fuel bill have a think about why its so high. 25 years victory? you fooking stupid *****.
OK Britain would have been as bad as France and Italy if it hadn't been for Thatcher. The unions would still be holding the country to ransom! Thank God the lady didn't back down and let the high earning, power mad uneducated muppets in the unions control and ruin this country!
RE: When you get your fuel bill Bloody Hell - spot on again A thread where I am 100% in agreement with everything you say Well I never
Absolutely spot on what baffles me is that someone further up this thread (on a website for supporters of Barnsley FC) can deny where the blame lays for the long term destruction of the community that spawns and identifies their football club. I sincerely hope it was either an ill thought out joke or he/she is on medication, cos if its a true reflection of their opinion Im lost for words.
No, we've let the high earning, power mad supposedly educated muppets in the Banks do that instead FFS
