Watters obviously to everyone except Collins is currently not at the top of his game or playing with any sort of confidence so to bring him on today when we were only a goal up was a negligent decision. Watters needs taking out of the spotlight or loaning out until he regains his form and confidence, throwing him to the wolves won't help anyone.
The annoying thing is today was made for a player with pace to hit them on the counter attack when we were 1 up. If you could draw up an ideal scenario for a player with Max Watters attributes it was today & he failed miserably. He actually started brightly & won a couple of flick ons to Jalo but got progressively worse. He bet the Wigan defender for pace to get the ball twice & then in both cases instead of attacking him he went backwards.
I’ve never booed a Reds player or Reds team and never will. I save my boos for the officials, the odd away player and the baddie at the pantomime. I’ve shouted my disgust at Reds players when they **** up though, but didn’t today or I would have lost my voice. We were rubbish today and only bad finishing from Wigan prevented us from a thrashing. Our defence is woeful. McCart wasn’t too bad, but Williams is really starting to irritate me now, with his basic mistakes. The substitutions weren’t just baffling, they were bloody stupid. As others have said, we have a two week break now, so there’s no justification for taking players off who are showing no obvious signs or tiredness, especially when the three that got taken off were our three best players on the day and our only goal threat. Connell somehow won MOTM, but the only one who played well in midfield was Phillips, who has been improving since Connell joined the midfield. Why take him off? And swapping McAtee, who had just chased the ball down and almost scored from near the corner flag, for Watters was beyond baffling. And then off comes Cole. Our chances of scoring pretty much fell to zero. Crazy substitutions I’m glad of the two week break. I don’t know about the rest of you. And to think, a display like today’s took us into a play-off position. If you weren’t convinced League One is a poor division, surely that confirms it? After the two decent first halves in the past two games I was hopeful a corner had been turned, but today’s display on the pitch and, particularly, from the dugout has sapped that optimism.
Eh? I’ve just said he failed miserably. If he can’t do it today when it was the perfect environment for him to perform when can he?
Yeah one of the time he went backwards was because, when Watters won the ball, Cadden should have bombed forward, Mccart then could have covered Caddens position then Watters could have passed forward and hopefully Cadden would have crossed and create a chance. But Cadden just stayed in his left wing back position. This passage of play shows a lack of coaching ability on how to play with wingbacks. Duff would have coached this properly. Collins has not a clue
Possibly, but think back to Port Vale at home. How many goals came from the wing backs bombing forward. Collins has either coached them out of this or taken away all their confidence with his dour, negative approach to a game of football
We had already dropped 20 yards deeper when the subs came on so they were left chasing hopeful balls with no support, you could see their goal coming and we got what we deserved in the second half.
They? Jalo seemed to try whereas Watters did his usual jogging around and gesturing towards defenders.
Felt sorry for cadden today. Spent 90% of the game stood in acres of space waving his arms around like a mad man while our midfield took no notice of him, turned to face out defenders and passed it to them, who in turn passed it to each other before one of them hoofed it down the middle
The substitutions were baffling; why can’t our players play for 90 minutes and why do we replace decent players with passengers?
Last season he went to Millwall but before he did signed a new deal I assume with improved wages and we put a release clause in. In fairness all party's were probably hoping that clause was met, it wasn't and callum came back here probably one of our top earners. I imagine the club and callum are hoping theres intrest this window.
With the data approach most clubs use these days I can't see him flagging up on many radars....... His best hope is a previous manager who takes a chance
