    He was seen to have used unreasonable force and got sent away for it,
    If someone brakes into your house and is coming towards you and you stick and knife in his chest or hit him in the face with a hammer 9 times out of 10 you'll face no charge, stab him in the back or hit him at the back of the head with a hammer as he's walking away 9 times out of 10 you'll get sent down, that's the rules don't matter if your a footballer or not that's the rules. not knowing the ins and outs of this case i can't judge the bloke, but there are right and wrong ways of sticking up for your self, and he was judged to have used unreasonable force by a jury who would have been shown everything that happened and he went away for it

    Good points ST. The courts do look at self defence I'm context and he had plenty of opportunity to get away from the situation both before and at times during the incident. Self defence also has to be proportionate with the threat to you and clearly from the footage the attack continued when there was no longer a threat. It became more about revenge and punishment than self defence.
