Let's say Wigan win the appeal

Am I reading this wrong or is their argument that there is no way Wigan athletic could have known that the owner of Wigan athletic was going to put Wigan athletic into adminstration and so Wigan athletic shouldn't be punished for the actions of Wigan athletics owner in relation to his ownership of Wigan athletic?

What next? A burglar appealing against his conviction for burglary by saying there's no way he could have known that he was going to steal the TV when he picked it up and walked out?
