I wonder if Millwall fans complain about their ground. Fairly new, but in the old style. (Opened 1993)
Also interesting to note how many people are prepared to give us as the West Stand is closed .... that's should serve as little reminder to those in charge, as to how many people may pack it in were we to move home.
I think you'd be surprised how many folk are all mouth when it comes to stuff like that, plus how many new people would turn up just to see the new stadium. Swings'n'rarndabarts.
Fair point about Oakwell. But then I think Cas's ground has 'Soul' and most of the other RL grounds don't. Though I understand it could be described as 'a bit of a dump!'
Is the capacity of Millwall's ground constantly declining? With only one stand that can be fully used? Be more of a case of some people will be lost because they're being asked to pick up from what's left in the two remaining stands. Probably wouldn't have been as much of an issue if they'd never opened it in the first place and let people renew in another stand in the summer.
But I don't think anybody is complaing about the style of Oakwell. More it's function, and what it returns for it's costs.
That's a good call. Been around that ground and it's one of the better new grounds imo. Examples of 'Good' grounds for me would be; Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle (as long as you're not an away fan!) Blackburn, Peterborough, Rochdale (as long as you're not a home fan!) Portsmouth.
If I've taken your post the wrong way then I apologise. Im used to seeing the fella get stick on here because he works for the club.
When does a stand stop being new? 30 years isn't that new, is it? Since the Premier League era, very few new grounds have been built and even fewer for clubs who haven't had a recent tilt at the Premier League. I for one don't trust the owners as far as I can throw them. Never have done. All the issues relating to the stand, upgrading, scoreboards, fan engagement should be resolved or being in the process of being resolved. The longer the environment continues to deteriorate further suggests the owners aren't really concerned about the club and fans per se. If they were they would engage with relevant parties, put their hands in their collective pockets and resolve these issues. The fact that they do nothing speaks volumes. On the pitch they nearly got lucky with Ismael last season. They didn't. If they had it would have been interesting to see what, if any, investment would have happened in the Premier League. I suspect it would have been minimal. They are here to make money not to spend it. If they think, long term they can make money by driving down the assets and negotiating further deals with other parties or holding out for resale then that's what they'll do. I might be incorrect in my analysis and my logic may be flawed ( I'm not a financial expert in any sense) but that's my view. My gut feeling about these owners has always been one of suspicion. I just dont think they give a damn.
That is a good point, but I would have thought the directors would be fine. I mean, how many do we have who regularly come ?
It will all come out in the wash one day but it just feels murky doesn't it? There was not quite the same disruption or as many disputes in the Cryne years or Dennis until Admin. On a level we can be sure about, I don't like our owners treating us an an investment vehicle, not having the presence and time required to run things effectively as they have so many other interests in their 'portfolio' to take care of. On a level of which I can be less certain, I worry about the lengths to which they may go to get their big payday and what damage this may do to the fans. Already, there's reason to suggest it's the club's finances from BFC revenue streams that are paying latter installments to the Crynes, not the owners' personal wealth.
This is clearly Conway & Co preparing their excuses for leaving Oakwell and groundshare. You can't read what they said a couple of months ago and come to any other conclusion. https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...b-have-abandoned-plans-to-buy-oakwell-3361773
