True story. when Doncaster Rovers are relegated to non league the secretary rang Forest Green and asked them where abouts in London they were as they’d been looking on the map and couldn’t find them.
I was at the New Lawn about a month before Covid really kicked in and we were behaving as normal. Super, super cute little town/village and the ground is just up at the top of an estate on it's own like a leisure centre backing on to a school. Best pitch in the country by all accounts based on it being organic.
they are suposed to be having a new ground built. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-50849900
I know. I've seen the plans and they look great.. Hopefully in that ground for the 2022/23 season but I'm not sure if Covid has put a 12 month delay on it. They were planning on around 8,000 that could rise to 12,000 but now they're thinking they need to ensure it could rise to 20,000.
Let's put some of you doubters right. I'm a regular at Forest Green and I'll give you the heads-up on Liam. He's left footed but is capable with the other peg. He's ok in the air, but he is good at making his presence felt without having to soar like an eagle. He hasn't scored for us this season, but likes his occasional runs at the defense which the crowd will relish (if we ever get them back). He's picked up plenty of yellows, but be aware defenders frequently 'take one for the team', but he can be feisty. Comparisons with Ethan Pinnock would be misplaced. Ethan, when he played for us, was silky smooth, calm in a crisis, hardly ever made a mistake and popped up for the odd goal, to para phrase 'our leader' he was 'oven ready' when you swooped for him. Liam wouldn't meet those criteria - yet! Your scouts have seen the potential that the FGR faithful have drooled over. He's 21 and not yet the finished article, but if he does join you I'm sure you'll nurture him as you did Ethan. Both our clubs have a policy of seeking out talent, nurturing them and moving them on. In these straightened times it's essential in order to keep clubs afloat. For the lower leagues with pitiful TV money dripping down, reduced attendance which costs the clubs more than playing behind closed doors, no catering and overheads that must be eye watering it's tough. Thankfully our owner is a successful businessman who has been prepared to take the long view. I note a few posters have picked up on other FGR players that have had 'good reviews'. I must concur, the manager said we had a talented group of players before a ball was kicked in anger this season - and he was right. This has lead to a much more settled club, the negativity level has dropped, the managers is now polite and even smiles and the football has been excellent so far. We also now have strength in depth so have confidence in filling any gaps that might appear through suspensions, injury or departures - but it's a long season. I suspect that Liam isn't the only one of FGR's squad that haven't attracted interest. If you do get your man, you may need to be patient, but the potential is enormous. You did well out of Ethan and that's probably why your back again. My view is if you put time and effort into Liam your club will be well rewarded. Anyway, good luck to you all and Barnsley FC - stay safe.
Thank you for taking the time to write this, you're a good 'un. Good luck this season for your club and I hope you and your family stay healthy and safe.
Such a great football club, ethos, and people working behind the scenes (but you already know that!). I backed you for promotion based on some of the signings you made when everyone else was standing still. I think you'll get stronger as the season goes on providing you don't lose 3-4 players in one go. Regardless of my bet I wish you all the best!
Thanks for this. I really admire your club! Hope you get promoted this season. All the best to you and yours for Xmas.
Thanks for taking the time to post. We all loved Ethan and I for one hope he gets his chance to try his skills in the Premier league. Here's hoping if we secure Liam he can help us in the same way Ethan did.
T Thanks for the lowdown. Plays either Centre half or Left back. According to Wiki. Does he look comfortable in either position. ?. Best of luck in the league. Btw.
Can you give us heads up on Jake Young - seems to be doing the business from not many appearances and we need at least one more striker
