That’s how I’d sum him up too. Could’ve developed into a Championship player with game time but Stoke was always a bad move on that front.
John Sheridan's position at Swindon is precarious, so I would have thought his agent might find him somewhere different.
He had no loyalty to our club or town,, no afffinity with our supporters, saw us as a stepping stone and got out first opportunity. I hope he enjoys his time in the lower leagues.
Don’t get the comments about league one level or that Pinnock made him look better than he was when he played in the championship the season before the league one promotion campaign & was one of our better players & had to play with lots of different cente backs - Jackson, Angus, Pearson, Pinnock & Mills. Made a big move & will be earning a fortune having secured himself for life. It is what it is when you make a move like that, there’s always a chance a new manager ends up taking over & you drop down the pecking order & when you’re a defender you don’t often get chances to come off the bench & make an impact. I think he’ll end up back playing in the championship one day as a regular even though it probably won’t be with Stoke. I think you have to make that move though. Look at Winnall after the bad injury he got, he’s at Oxford now. If he doesn’t take that 18k a week deal at Wednesday he never makes the kind of money that means he doesn’t have to work again. If you look at us Pearson was in a similar position & went away & proved himself. Halme’s in that scenario now. Can’t get a regular game but clearly has decent ability & potential & either with or without us I’m sure will end up back playing regularly at a decent standard. Jackson went away & looks like he might come back up with Lincoln too.
Poor player who was made to look good by the fact we had 3 excellent defenders around him and had such a good attacking team that in all honesty our defence was under little pressure a lot of the time. Every time he was under any pressure or had to make a challenge he wrapped his arms around the striker and hauled them to the floor. I even made a video compilation showing just how often he did it
He was okay in the championship in our relegation season. One of our better players in a awful season. The season after when him and pinnock were together when pinnock got his chance and was injury free it was clear pinnock was a class above. Lindsay hasn't really proved himself in the championship he was part of a poor defence that shipped goals for fun and got relegated then joined stoke and couldn't break into the team now looks set for Swindon. Where as pinnock has kicked on and was a regular last season in the strongest defence in the championship. Still time for lindsay he is still only 24,25? But he hasn't really proved himself in the championship.
Mawson best we've had in a long time, can't believe he was on the verge of england and now he's at Bristol
I agree Pinnock was the better of the two but they were both excellent & they had to be as except from the few occasions Dougall played the rest of the team were all out attack. The full backs spent more time in the opposition half. If anything they both carried Cavare & Pinillos.
Lindsay was league 1 at best for me. I certainly didn't lose any sleep over him going. Pinnock is miles in front and possibly premier league. I would like to see how he would hack it at that level.
He was very inconsistent in our championship season. However he had no protection from the midfield - I do remember him having the best game he’s ever had against Wolves at home which finished 0-0 with a forward line of Diogo Jota and Helder Costa. Was leagues above in league one but chased the money by going to Stoke instead of making a sensible move. No axe to grind with the lad but he’s followed in the footsteps of many of ex players who always thought the grass was greener and maybe moved too early
I agree with that and we were very attacking that season it was great to watch one of my favourite season in 24 years of watching us behind the Premiership promotion season. But I suppose sometimes the best form of defence is attack. I agree with your other post aswell I think lindsay will end up a championship defender suprised he is dropping to Swindon but he needs competitive game time.
I like Liam. Great bloke. And served us well. We made good money on him and currently have four or five central defenders who are at least as good or better.
He proved a fantastic foil for Pinnock (who is the best central defender I've ever seen play for Barnsley, and I include McCarthy, Evans, May, Sir Futch, Taggart, Smith, Tyler, Davies, De Zeeuw, Moses, Morgan, Foster, Roberts and Mawson in that (and potentially a few we've got now)). Pinnock, Lindsay and Davies were superb. But Liam was a great partner to a great player rather than a great player himself. I'm not knocking him, he did a superb job, but he was never going to go on to be a great player in this division without a great player at the side of him. Part of the best defence I've ever seen for Barnsley and probably ever will see, just 39 goals conceded in 46 league games, while scoring 40 both home and away, but a great team player rather than a great player. Pinnock on the other hand has everything.
Liam Lindsay was not good enough. End of. he just wasnt. Same as a lot of players who have moved up and enhanced their careers. Most havent because they havent been good enough. They leave Barnsley and they are no longer a big fish in a small pond. Hourihane and Stones the exception. Most, if not all, do it for the bank balance which is fair enough but doesnt mean they are ultimately great players
He's only 25 , seems ages since he left chasing the end of the rainbow, I think if he would have stayed ( like many players leaving our club) he would have got better and better, if he ends up at swindon( regardless what he's being payed)he must wonder WTF as happened, if he was in his 30s then I get that but for a lad of 25, wow, how the mighty have fallen
