Much more suited to selling ad space in Wancashire than buying players from there!

Good luck to him. Can't have been easy trying to attract players to us at this level on our budget and seeing our best assets sold off for under market value.

People talk about his departure like he's to blame but neither side have kept us in the loop so we can only go on the things we know for a fact.

He was to blame for the Morsy debacle.

    Two completely contradictory paragraphs

. Paragraph 1 badly informed speculation. Paragraph 2 we should. Only deal in facts

We only sold winnall for under market value and that was because he told the club he wouldn't be playing after january.

I thought it was something to do with that as well but when asked if Morsy is someone we'd look at again in the Summer (assuming Wigan go down), Heckingbottom said, "We can't afford him". That says to me that he just simply got an offer we couldn't match at Wigan.

Be interested to know what really went on, Linton seemed enthusiastic in the role, maybe didn't like the sound of his own voice as much as Ben Mansford did but that's not a bad thing. As is always the case with this kind of thing though it remains private.

Yeah but the 500k figured thrown around wasn't official, although it seemed to suit the agenda of a lot of folk as there were other fairly reputable sources that suggested it was much higher than that. It will have been Sam himself that pushed the move through, he'll have known exactly what Wednesday were offering before he officially sat down with them, that's the modern game for you.

The deal was done at £500k (which someone had the for foresight to find out was the release clause!), with player just having to agree a wage, with us. Unfortunately some certain then person tried tinkering and offered less!!.......... Wigan saw their opportunity.
We lost a very good championship player there

Yeah but what I'm saying is, from what Heckingbottom said today, is that Wigan offered money that we couldn't match. Not saying I don't find that annoying, traditionally we are a much better supported team than Wigan are so it's bad that we can't at least match them in terms of wages, although they may even still have parachute payments.

Yea mate its very disappointing but the fact remains he was red, because we satisfied the release clause and the player wanted to come (loved it!). It was totally out of Morsy's hands and wages were just up to player and us to agree upon. I guess its a real pain though, like you say not being able to compete, as now we really cant afford him.

Wages were up to us and the player. The player took the higher wages on offer at Wigan. Which fair play we all might. Fiddling with the fee might have been a distraction but it was meaningless anyway given the wage increase offered by Wigan which we were never going to match.

I do wish we'd be slightly more ambitious, especially in a case where it was "try before you buy" and he offered a lot to the team. The trouble is you give a player like Morsy a wedge of a wage and then you've got the agents of every other influential player ringing the manager demanding new contracts so I can see why the club didn't want to go down that road.

Exactly, they've probably banked a load of their parachute money so it'll keep them competitive salary-wise for another five years or so. They can probably afford to have players on the periphery on 15 grand a week, whereas we wouldn't even have offered Hourihane that much to stay.
