They,re desperate to turn these shows into something they,re not, what about all the white characters in these shows, i saw tricia on newsnight last night saying that bo selecta was racist, no it wasn,t , he created caricatures of people black AND white inc Elton john, Lorraine kelly and plenty of other white people, by all means say you,re offended by it but don,t try to make it racist, coz it isn,t...

 

To be fair, the Trisha character was rather racist. When the sketch consists of blacking up and taking about rice and peas then I reckon it probably does deserve an apology.

 

Go on then, tell me this isn't racist

 

its a caricature lampooning a black person, what about the lorraine kelly one with half her mi-ge hanging out or the elton john or davina mccall, scary spice wasn,t offended, look at spitting image everyones features are exaggerated its caracaturing, as i say, if it offends then apologise to the person and don,t do it again, but its not racist..

 

It's not caricaturing though is it? There's nothing about that remotely accurate to Trisha, it's just a lazy offensive Caribbean stereotype. Davina Mccall, Elton John, Mel B etc. weren't racist because those characters weren't based on race. Trisha is nothing but a race joke.

Because they were celebrities lampooned in the same show, tricia was just a character like them and she was not lampooned because she was black...

 

If Trisha was white, rather than the daughter of a Carribean immigrant, do you think the character would have been the same?

 

Then she would have been lampooned as a white person i would imagine yes..

 

So you acknowledge the joke was based solely on her race?

 

No, the joke was based on her being a morning tv presenter, was lorraine kellys joke based on her being scottish?, your just creating things that really aren,t there..

 

So why does the character say things like "bumblesquat" and "bogle bogle bogle" and talk about jerk lobster and peppered shrimp? I can't remember any of that from Trisha's TV series...

She didn't, but telling people to buy books isn't a racist stereotype.

 

Just out of curiosity, whilst we are talking about banning things, would you be ok with the banning of the goodness gracious me sketch "going for an english"...

 

What about the way they lampooned her look?, she isn,t complaining, she even appeared in the xmas video...

 

No, that doesn't need banning. Please enlighten me as to how that view is incompatible with me thinking the Trisha sketch is racist.

 

They didn't lampoon her look in any way which played on her race as I remember

 

because its a comedic take on the English stereotype as a lot of their sketches were, but it shouldn,t be banned , it should be taken in the context in which it was meant, comedy..
