I try to live in the present since it's the only thing that actually exists, the past only exists in present memory.

Dwelling on the past, that's the way to alcoholism and drug dependency.

You should stand at the side of the road during any remembrance day parade selling badges with those inspiring words. In fact I'll pay for the badges if you want to put the time in and do it.

Post traumatic stress ruins lives, you think those people WANT to remember?

The problem they have is they can't forget the past, same with victims of abuse, the curse of being human is that the past, even though it doesn't exist seems MORE real than the present, that's why people turn to alcohol and drugs to try and blot out those memories.

Hopefully in the future there will be news drugs or therapies that will do that in a less destructive way.

Glad you put the spade down and tried to climb out of the hole you dug, enjoy the rest of your Saturday night tipple.

Remembrance Day started with WW1 anyway which no-one can remember, it's about respect rather than memory.

its comments like this that make me embarrased to come from barnsley whether tongue in cheek or not, i wish we had something festival wise in the midlands similar to what "live in barnsley" promotes, its a great idea and if shift work didnt get in the way i would have been up there for the weekend, local music breeds support and from what i here the pubs have been rammed all day, no we will never forget what thatcher destroyed and will never forget im proud to be barnsley born n bred and spread the word where i live now, i left barnsley to better myself 14 years ago and dont regret 1 minute but i will always support south yorkshire and barnsley because they are my roots

What a great event; people in Barnsley should really support this event in the future - it could become huge and really put Barnsley on the map.

Highlight for me - in the Shakey mosh pit when Mark Jackson and the Criminal Waste of Talent were on -" BRILLIANT" as Paul Whitehouse would say.

Brilliant day. Anyone that thinks such an event is about the music is wrong. It was/is about the community having ang an excuse to come together, see old friends, meet new ones and enjoy themselves. A brilliant day.

And all this living in the past stuff, I went to the David Conn talk on Orgreave in the council chamber yesterday morning. It's not about living in the past. It's not about wanting the mines reopened. It's about getting the truth out there, holding public and government organisations to account & hopefully making sure things like hundreds of Barnsley men getting criminal records for nothing doesn't happen again.

Barnsley blokes were charged with riot at Orgreave. Life imprisonment & SYP seemingly changed statements to try and make that happen. If people hadn't found this and exposed it in 85 people would be fighting for their Dad's to be let out of prison, not for 'truth'.

Saw the band performing around half nine in Walkabout in funny costumes and wigs. Tarn Life was a good play on Park Life but wish i'd been around when a band was singing more original songs. Fergal Sharkley got the crowd going well. Jon Parkin looked to be enjoying himself.

They were a mixture of loads of bands but the lads in the Beatles outfit were The Barsteward Son's of Val Doonican, they don't do original songs as such they change the words of popular songs for comedic effect. I was the bloke who guested for the 2nd song 'Live in Barnsley' to the tune of London Calling.

I did wonder if it was you as you mentioned wearing that t shirt on here. But it was a different venue and I assumed plenty would have that t shirt so dismissed that it could be you lol. Good performance and the crowd were really into it. Shame the man himself didn't join in for Teenage Kicks.

I done think that saying people in Barnsley should stop living in the past is pulling the town down.

It's all about attitude, the people who when they were laid off from the pits said "reight that's it I'll nivver work again" and spent their redundancy on a caravan or something are very different from the fella (sorry forgot his name) who spent his redundancy on re-training to become a solicitor and became Barnsley's leading defence solicitor.
